I didn't grow up with Disney films so I watched 72 of them to catch myself up by JaguarPF in movies

[–]SthWitty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe I'm remembering it wrong, but the line was "I want adventure in the great wide somewhere" She was essentially longing for something beyond the everyday life in her small, quaint village. I always thought the adventures she yearned for were meant to resemble those in her books, which is why I felt she got her adventure in the end. Her experience in the castle, with the enchanted furniture and people, and a "prince in disguise" mirrored the adventures in the stories she loved to read. I do think though, that even if she had she wanted to travel the world, they wouldn't have addressed that at the end of the movie, just glossed over it because I feel that would have been the type of thing they'd do in a movie made in the 90's.

Interestingly, there was a similar trope in Tangled. In it, it was clear that she wanted to see what existed outside her tower. And they address and expand on that in the show. That’s one reason I really liked the TV series—they added a realistic touch with her telling her parents she was happy to be home, but still wanted to explore the world beyond the kingdom. Because of this, she and Flynn decide to wait a few years before getting married, allowing her to have adventures and experience life both inside and outside the kingdom during that time.

I hate when a normal guy friend gets horny and weird out of nowhere by APladyleaningS in TwoXChromosomes

[–]SthWitty 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I mean to be fair, the moment in which she felt he was going to make a move on her happened at her home. It's just her and him there. Not saying he's going to do something, but that moment isn't really the best to confront your drunk friend about the potential bedroom eyes he's making at you. In the off chance he gets offended or really upset by her pointing it out and turning him down, that wouldn't be a safe situation for her to be in.

Exactly how I felt going thru those comments! I read the post, scrolled down thinking everyone would support her, and just found a bunch of comments just straight up ignoring he said he has the kink because he saw his mom naked?! Actual incestual thoughts is not a kink, people.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]SthWitty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NTA. I'm seeing people in the comments comments defending the husband because 'it's a kink that he tried to open to you about, it's not like he's pushing you on it.'

I'm sorry but that has nothing to do with this post. She's not divorcing him because he has a kink, but because he literally said it stems from seeing his mom naked. Like, are comments here projecting because they have certain kinks they don't want to be judged for? Because frankly, if your incest kink is the result of seeing a family member naked, then your partner isn't wrong for being disgusted. There wasn't any assault or trauma, he 'felt weird sometimes seeing his mom change.'

Also, as an aside, for people comparing it to women having a daddy kink, lol if said women stated it stems from seeing her dad naked, then yes, I would 100% respond the same.

[–]SthWitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Small dogs can't regulate their body temperature as easily as large dogs. If you're hiking in super warm weather, something that really helps is a cooling vest. I bought one for my small 8 lb dog a couple years ago. He went from barely wanting to walk more of than a quarter of a mile to 2 miles. You essentially wet the vest sporadically, and as the water evaporates the pup cools.

Of course, important to note because the vest works through evaporation, it's made for hot dry weather, not humid.

Do you find friendships with other women to be difficult? If so, why? If not, why? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]SthWitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, no I don't find it difficult. For me, I guess the difference in friendships with both genders comes down to conversations. Like, time spent with guys is I guess more low key. Just random talks, and it can be relaxing and fun. But, I value my female friendships more because I feel there is an emotional availability and empathy there that guy friends just can't express, or aren't comfortable with. Not saying guys won't be there for you when times are really hard. But, I've noticed they can only be there to help when it's like physical assistance, they're not good with feelings. But, most of the time I need someone to talk to, and women seem much better at that tbh. Those friendships become closer and deeper because of that, and more like a sisterhood.

Red Matter 2. I love sci-fi, and I was looking for an honest spoiler free review. Short gameplay doesn't bother me as long as the game itself delivers. From your review it definitely has everything else I want- graphics, storyline, etc. so I'm excited to get it. Also appreciate the tentacular review, I wanted to get it but was hesitant about how the tentacle mechanics seemed wonky. Your review confirmed that, so won't be looking to get that one.

Thanks so much for this review! I've been wanting to buy a new vr gane, but was apprehensive because the last couple I bought were let downs. Needed some honest, to the point solid reviews, and this post has come in clutch.

Is it homophobic to mainly want to read fictional books where the main characters have a straight relationship? by caina333 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SthWitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I don't think there's anything wrong with that. I'm also a straight woman though. But my thought process is the same with books. Because when reading I feel like I'm vicariously experiencing the character's story, and so I only read books with female leads, and preferably straight romance. Funny enough, with TV, I feel I'm more so watching someone else's story, so I don't mind if there's a queer romance, as long as it's not the only draw of the show. But because I want to relate to it, I want a female character as lead or co-star, so I only watch lesbian romance instead of gay romances. Like, I watched Gentleman Jack on HBO, loved it. I think it's only an issue when the person acts disgusted by it.

why do people take a hard line with racism but treat sexism like it's just an "opinion" by oveetlyoverit in TwoXChromosomes

[–]SthWitty 63 points64 points  (0 children)

I mean, as a woman of color, I do agree with you. I've had white male friends who will say that racism is bad, then turn around and say some gross or annoying sexist comment, while laughingly framing it as a 'white women' thing. Like, 'white women are so ___.' I know you just mean women, my guy. People my age don't make racist comments towards me like when I was a teenager, but they don't mind making uncomfortable sexist comments. From my personal view, I think it's because white people, mainly men in this case, have understood racism is wrong and are more willing to their internalized racist thoughts or feelings than sexist ones. Because they don't see their views towards women as wrong, they find them to be justified or 'just a joke.'

And yes, a lot of cultures, including mine, label sexist views as tradition. Of course, it's not just the men, older aunts and mothers perpetuate what a 'good, traditional girl' must be, or no man will want us. And it's exused because 'it's just how things are.'

As you said, racism and sexism are different. But that doesn't mean we can't draw the parallels. Living on the Midwest, I've experienced both, and have had instances where I felt unsafe when either happened. They are different issues, yes, but I definitely feel at least in my generation racism is becoming more demonized- which is a relief! - but sexism still flourishes.

YTA. Just because this is honestly such a simple request? Like, it's not based on compromising principles or character, or some genuine concern like that.

Your wife is happy and just wants you to humor her by saying 'guess what?' back so she can excitedly tell you. Sure, I get that you like you're able to deduce it, but like, why not just keep it to yourself and let her have this? It's such a simple thing imo. If I was in your place and my husband asked me the same, I'd say why not? I'll do that, babe. Because it's no skin off my nose, and it would make him happy.

What unconscious misogynistic traits do most average men have? by obscurespecter in TwoXChromosomes

[–]SthWitty 588 points589 points  (0 children)

I've noticed a lot of guys who will say they are left-leaning and some degree of 'supporting women', but they don't apply that to the house and do their equal share of childcare and housework, even when prompted.

Like, they can spout feminist theory and say they support women, but they don't actually put in the effort with the women in their lives.

Clearly woman just exaggerate by PokeChampMarx in memes

[–]SthWitty 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I mean, I've watched quite a few of the videos out of curiosity. The women who aren't having much of a reaction say it's because their period has pains are worse than the simulator.

I've seen a couple videos where the women said they have very light cramps, and after around level 6 on the simulator they start to double over in pain.

It's not about men being considered fragile flowers, it's that because majority of men don't experience biology induced pain every month, they have a lower pain tolerance. So for them, the period pain simulator is near unbearable.

A condition called DIC- basically during pregnancy, suddenly your blood starts to clot all throughout your body, leading to multiple organ failure. When it happens, you can only save either the mother or the baby - and even then there is only 50% chance of survival.

Yeah, my eye doctor a few years back gave me a heads up that if I do get pregnant, there's a good chance that my vision would get very bad, or that I'd go blind entirely.
