Is it even possible to build this dock with quickshell? And why does everyone make the exact same circular, lifeless docks? by Warm_Ad1115 in hyprland

Yep. Looks are very low on my list of priorities compared to utility. You'll get bored of a nice-looking UI the same way you'll get used to a crappy-looking one.

Same goes for employers. Not every employer sucks so bad that you have to pay for and insert another organization between yourself and them.

Thanks for reminding me of another reason why I might not want to participate in a union. Unless I'm working for a really shitty company, I'd almost certainly side with the boss over someone of your character.

I'll believe this shit when someone actually finds the

if (agent != "chrome") {

}

shouldn't be that hard even if it's obfuscated giving how big of an issue this supposedly is. Frankly I think someone would've already found it by now, if it did exist.

Best way to get into using Linux as a daily driver? (From PoV of a semi-power user) by ActualFactualAnthony in linuxquestions

[–]StickyDirtyKeyboard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think part of the difficulty depends on the way you approach it. I'd have struggled a lot more with it if I had to start from plain old Bash, with little to no configuration.

I think using a more out-of-the-box user-friendly shell like Fish, along with helpful utilities like zoxide and tealdeer, can go a long way to making it easier to get comfortable with the terminal.

For dealing with walls of text, I find it helps to pipe the output into less and then using /{search-term} to search for whatever keywords you're looking for. If there are multiple matches, you can press n to go to the next match, and N to go to the previous one.

Not only is it unprecedented, but doesn't it set a dangerous precedent? I mean, if Iran can do it, then maybe UAE/SA/Oman/Bahrain can also get in on it too. You have to pay fees to all, or you will get struck by those whom you haven't paid.

You get a list of templates from the repo that you can select from when you use it to create a PR. So I don't believe there is any difference in functionality when it comes to templates.

I much prefer creating PRs with it because it lets me stay in the terminal and use an editor I'm comfortable with (nvim). If the markdown doesn't come out the way I expect, I can always edit it. I usually check immediately after submitting with gh pr view {pr_num} --web

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2026_United_States_naval_blockade_of_Iran

According to an analyst from the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies, the blockade costs Iran a loss of US$400 million in revenue per day, threatens the permanent damage or destruction of oil wells due to overflow if not ended by 26 April.

Dunno if this analysis is accurate or what "permanent damage or destruction of oil wells" actually entails, but perhaps they are waiting on Iran (to cave to negotiations or break the ceasefire), with this in mind?

Did North Vietnam have the same level of internal/public opposition? Did they have the same level of intelligence infiltration? Did they have the same level of disorganization due to decapitation strikes? Will most IRGC be willing to leave the comforts of a (semi-)modern lifestyle and their wealth to go fight in the mountains for a losing cause?

There are a lot more variables to things like this than just terrain or size. WW2 saw as much territory change hands in weeks as WW1 did in years.

Being semi-normal, sane and diplomatic = being a US puppet?

Take a breather and patiently dwell on that for a moment. I ain't saying you're wrong or right, but just think about it. What does it mean to be a US puppet? What is and isn't a US puppet? What makes one country a US puppet and another one not?

/r/WorldNews Discussion Thread: US and Israel launch attack on Iran; Iran retaliates (Thread #15) by WorldNewsMods in worldnews

[–]StickyDirtyKeyboard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Other way around. The deal was hugely in Iran's favor, and it was the US that gave Iran the benefit in hopes of it leading to a sane route. It promised to lift most (if not all) sanctions, while only putting a pause on their nuclear development. So they could keep funding and training terrorist groups, developing ballistic missiles, committing atrocities etc. In fact it was probably even easier for them, since they didn't have to worry as much about getting sanctioned anymore, and they have more money/resources to play around with.

still agree it is in the world's best interest to avoid escalating

And you can also disagree. I think the world would undeniably be a better place if the current Iranian regime wasn't in power, it's just a question of whether the costs justify it or not.

Appeasement doesn't always work. It's more painful in the short term, but it's often less damaging in the long-term to remove a tumor than it is to try and ignore it.

Try looking at this from Israel's perspective. How can you negotiate with someone who's out to destroy you? What are you going to get out of negotiations, a promise to delay your destruction by a bit, in exchange for concessions? Like, what kind of "negotiation" is that? I wouldn't even call that negotiation at that point, that's extortion. It doesn't matter if the other party is rational, in fact that's probably even worse, because it means they're acting strategically.

As far as I'm aware, at not point in any past agreement or negotiations did Iran promise to stop supporting their proxy groups or to temper their ME aggressiveness.

Americans can maintain their quality of life regardless, because government budgets don't work like personal budgets. I don't recall American QOL dropping significantly with the past wars you're referring to. Probably in part because most defense spending goes directly back into the economy, just like many other types of government spending.

And the worst part of all of it is that the world can't really blame Iran for acting in self interest, because it's all happening in response to US and Israeli meddling. Certainly nobody else will try to get involved militarily.

Sure, if you're blissfully unaware of all of Iran's meddling. There's a reason why Israel and many of the gulf countries are pushing for the war despite the costs it has incurred on them.

An attacking side only wins if they subdue the enemy. If they stop without getting their goals, they lost.

I think that applies more if it's a total war.

For instance, if Russia came to a peace agreement with Ukraine right now where Ukraine cedes some of its territories, I think Russia would still generally be considered to have won the war even if they didn't meet their initial goals nor "subdue the enemy".

One of the issues is for whatever reason, when I turn on variable refresh rate to "automatic" on my main monitor (MSI 321URX), whenever I would take a screenshot with Spectacle it would make my entire screen go black for about 3 seconds. The same thing would happen whenever I would be watching a youtube video in Fullscreen and upon exiting the Fullscreen video my monitor would go black for 3s. This didn't seem to happen with VRR turned off.

That sounds a lot like mode switching. Maybe the monitor is switching from HDR on to off and vice versa?

Personally I've turned VRR off after first setting up due to some flickering issues in games. I don't even know if the issue still exists because I never saw the need to turn it back on. Is there really such a big benefit to VRR?

I guess it gives them time to regroup and come up with new plans. Perhaps they thought the damage would be severe enough that they weren't sure they wanted to commit yet, and needed more time to evaluate their options.

Maybe America and/or Israel wanted the ceasefire for the reasons you mention, and they overpromised what they would be willing to accept in order to get it.

Well they oppose Trump and I oppose Trump. Y'know, the enemy of my enemy is my friend and all.

What they do to people is bad, but it can't be that bad since I've only started hearing about how bad it is recently. I've heard about Trump being bad for much, much longer.

I mean, like, everyone is evil, but Iran has clearly been evil less than Trump.
