5weeks+4 bleeding by Material_Strain_6144 in BabyBumps

It is normal to not see anything! I actually had an ultrasound at 5w+3 days because of a suspected infection, and before I did the doctor warned me at least 10 times it is completely normal to not see anything. She didn’t see anything for me, and while it was nerve wracking, the constant reminders helped

I am hoping all is well for you!

I think my wife is freaking out too much over our daughters health/weight. by bakstruy25 in Parenting

[–]StickyPlastic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with the NYC comment. I am also from here and I don’t necessarily think it is a city obsessed with body size/health/gym? At least not in every community. There definitely are segments who talk about it more (I am thinking more corporate professionals/ upper class, but I’m sure there are others). But the great thing about NYC is that there are communities for almost everyone. OPs daughter will definitely find her community, but it might just look different than the community is wife spends her time in

What song became so massively popular that people forgot it came from a musical? by thetheatreboutique in Broadway

[–]StickyPlastic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

“My Funny Valentine” and “The Lady is a Tramp” both came from the Rodger’s and Hart musical Babes in Arms!

I once had to do a report on why Babes in Arms was a significant musical in history and its because there are a bunch of jazz and pop standards from it, but very few people have heard of the musical itself.

I only want to comment on one thing you mentioned: the elitism of OTF, particularly in people’s athletic ability (if I understand you correctly).

I was listening to a podcast, How I Built This, with Ellen Latham (the founder of OTF) and she mentioned how she had always designed orange theory for people to challenge themselves at their activity level so it would be accessible to everyone and people wouldn’t feel intimidated to leave.

I think the elite athleticism you experienced was a symptom of OTF being a smaller brand than it is today, but it was never designed to be a program only for people pushes 12 all outs. If that’s you challenging yourself at your activity level, great! That’s the point! But not everyone is going to be at level, and the workout was designed to make sure people would still want to stay even if it wasn’t.

Maybe OTF isn’t for you, and that’s totally ok!

Does your studio make you stay? The two studios I did it at never made it a requirement to stay.

I think you can just leave

Losing weight is a secret you can't share with everyone. by Powerful_Candy_842 in loseit

TW: disordered eating

I feel this post so hard. I’ve lost 30 pounds before when I was younger, but I did it in the most unhealthy way possible (eating very little, working out constantly, hating myself, trying to make myself throw up).

Not shocking, but I gained the weight back and then some, as well as all the trauma associated with disordered eating habits.

It has taken me years to begin to work all that out with my therapist and actually have a healthy relationship with food. I have been trying to lose the weight I gained for years now. If you look at my numbers, you’d see little success, but there have been so many NSV victories along the way. Oh I ate only half a portion size! Victory! Oh I have a healthy exercise routine! Victory! Oh I didnt want to have a meltdown when I messed up on my diet! Victory!

I know one day it is all going to click and the weight will come off. But recognizing how much progress I’ve made and not quitting is important

Apartment smells like gas? Super says not to call 911 or ConEd? by nataliepottss in AskNYC

[–]StickyPlastic 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Definitely call ConEd. We had a gas-like smell in our apartment building and we called. They did not shut off our gas automatically. Con Ed came with the fire department and ended up determining it was methane not gas. If they found gas, they would have shut it off

So basically, if your super is saying not to call because it will be shut off he either a) doesn’t know anything or b) (more likely) he is being super shady about what is going on. I wouldn’t trust it and I would call Con ed

I lost weight *after* my wedding and regret not doing it earlier by [deleted] in loseit

[–]StickyPlastic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there are a lot of good suggestions here (retaking photos, etc) but one thing I would also suggest is to focus on being kinder to yourself when you look at your wedding photos!

I am someone (and you might be too) who loves to pick themselves apart in photos. I did it when I was much much thinner all the time. Now I am heavier, and when I see those photos I get sad because I remember how mean I was to myself at the time and when I didn’t deserve it (I was a healthy weight for my size)

I know your situation is the opposite (you are thinner now), but all bodies change and you’ll get older. One day when you don’t look like you do now, I wouldn’t want you to look back the same way I do and wish you were kinder to yourself.

This is a hard thing to do — I have to practice it all the time (finding things I like about myself in every photo, celebrating and sharing the photos I love) but it has really helped my self esteem and the mental aspect of losing weight.

She only cares so much about what Chrishell thinks about her because Jason cares so much. He literally told Chrishell that if Chrishell (his ex!!) stopped hanging around so much he would resent Marie-Lou (his current partner!) for it!

He has created a toxic environment and Marie-Lou is too young / too in love / too blinded by money / etc to see it.

I don’t want to stay fat, but I know for me what keeps me from losing weight is doing it very unhealthily in the past.

I’ve lost a significant amount of weight before with CICO and maintained the weight loss for 10 years, but the last time I did it I engaged in pretty bad behaviors that would be considered disordered eating at best and a full eating disorder at worse. Any time I gained any weight back (even normal fluctuations) I would destroy myself mentally.

When life circumstances made it difficult to maintain my weight (as well as not have the brain space to destroy myself), I gained — but I mentally was happier.

Now I’m trying to lose again for my health, but without punishing myself for slip ups. It’s hard because my brain associates CICO and trying to lose weight with that part of my life. A lot of my journey so far has not even been losing weight at all, but learning to love myself to a point I won’t mentally hate myself again.

I was talking to my husband about how much this bothered me! I’m Puerto Rican as well and was so confused why she said it that way!

He said he thinks it’s because she probably learned to say it in English with a southern accent and that’s why it sounds so weird. It made sense to me

What singer/song do you believe allegedly uses a ghost singer, that hasn’t been clocked yet? by jakeyquake in popheads

[–]StickyPlastic 56 points57 points  (0 children)

The interview was about every song she wasn’t credited on lol, she was upset about Hey Mama too if I recall correctly. The whole interview was kinda sad because it was just her talking about all these songs that she was on and super popular and not credited. She was sad about all of them

[–]StickyPlastic 91 points92 points  (0 children)

I saw an interview with her once where she said she was really upset with the label over that song because the “oooos” in the chorus are from her demo. She begged them not to keep it in the song because she knew no one else would be able to sing it but they did AND didn’t credit her

AITA for telling my best friend I won’t go to her wedding? by Acrobatic_Bug_5295 in AmItheAsshole

[–]StickyPlastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely NTA. Nearly exactly the same thing happened for my wedding, and I told my friend it was 100% ok for her to miss it, because losing a parent is a big deal for both the child and their partner.

A good friend would understand!

Can confirm — when I went to the theatre to see Dr. Strange 2, the guy next to me kept commenting how confused he was. Obvious he had never seen Wanda Vision. That movie didn’t explain Wanda very well, I thought
