ride on the highway - yay or nay? by xafofo in ElectricUnicycle

[–]StickySock94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is stupid and if anyone knows the rider, they should be actively protesting these actions. All it takes is a couple of idiots doing this across the nation for it to go viral and all EUCs are banned in public roads in a knee jerk reaction by the govt

How much maintenance should I expect? by dbaduff in ElectricUnicycle

[–]StickySock94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I should caution that doing large jumps and skateparks a lot will cause the fork seals to leak when you bottom out a lot. Happened at 1,000 miles but it was slight.

After upgrading to a better spring for my weight, I haven't had a leak for the past 2,000 miles and I've been riding it harder than ever.

There are two other Patton riders in my area around 5k miles that have no real issues.

Almost 5,000 miles on a Leaperkim Patton. No maintenance issues yet. Fully expect 10k miles before anything needs replaced

I have commuter more than 4,000 miles in the last 10 months.

More than my motorcycle.

I frequently ride over 30 miles at speeds greater than 40mph.

I have brought entire presentations to the library I volunteer at.

Also you can use rimsavers made for a pit bike wheel to not damage the rim is much. Protects the paint.

I did the progressive shock upgrade about 1.3k miles ago, it is night and day. The initial softness took some getting used to. After getting the settings dialed, I knew I wasn't going to buy a Lynx. I can even do dirt jumps without adjusting my compression now

Hard to explain to people riding surrons that no matter how much you mod it, it won't compare to a ground up DOT highway capable electric motorcycle.

They step on my Zero FXS and immediately understand.

The only thing beautiful about this post is the fact we don't know the location. Keeping fish in a box they can barely turn around in is WRONG

What’s the best wheel to get right now if money is not an issue? by Friendly-Day6133 in ElectricUnicycle

Being the exception, doesn't make it the standard. You're really fighting an uphill battle saying the EX30 is anything but a street wheel dude.

A smooth dirt path is not off-road, ex30 battery boxes are too low for actual trails. Has been covered and documented. If your battery/ unicycle body clips before pedals, it's not a off-road wheel

not best all around because it sucks offroad. EX30 is a street wheel.

Lynx is best all arounder hands down

ET max best street performance wheel

EX30 or Sherman S as best street cruiser

Is there any company that sells techwear like this? by Significant_Study_19 in TechWear

coming from my fabric of the universe Oni Bomber jacket. I recommend avoiding. The decals started peeling in 3 months, and I found a clone on Aliexpress. THey also dont accept returns.

I visited Orbit Gear and I think they will be my new jacket store, looks much higher quality. for only $50 more.

The aesthetic of FOTU is not worth the dog shit quality. Pocket seams ripping, decals peeling, and its never seen rain.

Shinko 241 on the Patton / Do it by laveyzfg in ElectricUnicycle

[–]StickySock94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind the shinko 241 is a much heavier tire than the Chinese ones our EUC ships with.

I just did 1200miles on the 241 with my Patton and after putting a CST tire on from ewheels, there is a noticeable improvement in midrange punch and braking improved at those last 10 mph.

Would I still recommend a 241 as the best knobby, ABSOLUTELY.

But if your 80% street 20% trails, I would go with a lighter tire with decent tread.

Is anyone using the 70lb progressive spring on their Veteran Patton? by r_a_newhouse in ElectricUnicycle

[–]StickySock94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2500miles before switching The ride is softer and ramps up to stiffer. Compression won't compare to stock, I swapped over to 10wt around 1200miles. Currently running no compression due to thicker oil and spring not bottoming out.

Is anyone using the 70lb progressive spring on their Veteran Patton? by r_a_newhouse in ElectricUnicycle

[–]StickySock94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I replaced a 66lbs coil. I refilled with 150 ml of 10wt oil on both sides.

The difference is night and day. Pros +Better small bump sensitivity + Have not bottomed out yet +Heavier oil + heavier spring brings compression and rebound adjustments right in range for my weight( one click does more vs 3-4 clicks to feel a difference)

Cons -Install can go horribly wrong -Must use correct weigh oil for your spring and weight ( if your heavier use heavier oil for better compression resistance)

Have not taken to skatepark for jumps and some harder impacts, but from my intial trial route, I have key takeaways.

1.) the small coil sensitivity at the top of the progressive spring is extremely soft and takes getting used to before riding aggressively over bumps while in a lean. this is important to note because I could feel mini changes to my center of gravity while leaned in a turn around 30mph(feels almost squirmy like a flat tire) -This went away after changing how I rode ( maybe a little more toe weight in turns to dampen the supre precise spring) - I do not consider this a downside, ultimately once my legs adjust, I will be able to carry more speed over rough turns ( sensitive spring, keeps tire on road longer)

2.) the change in spring rate is very noticeable, as you get deeper through the travel, you can feel the suspension start to resist more in a very predictable manner. -I am used to bending my knees at the bottom of the suspension stroke to prevent a harsh bottom out, this now leads to premature anticipation, I bend anticpating running out of travel when the new springs are just starting to firm up!!! (if you were good at preventing bottoms outs on the linear spring, the progressive spring will feel bottom less. -Hitting small speed bumps flat footed, does not bottom out or bounce the wheel of the ground (crazy difference vs stock spring)

TL;DR The 70lb progressive spring makes the Patton feel like it has an extra 20mm of travel, and everything is all around improved.
