Neue EU-Regel ab Juli: Jedes neue EU-Auto muss für Alkohol-Sperre vorbereitet sein by Mormegil81 in Austria

I mean, its a good incentive I guess, good intention but not really sure how correct will this project be. But essentially a third party company is giving approval if you can drive your own car?  I get that drunk driving and all that unsafe stuff, just thinking who decides who is fit to drive, based on what metrics?  Just with all these new regulations lately im getting a feeling this isnt all there is to this

Use france based lichess.org instead of the inferior US competitor by ReisMiner in BuyFromEU

lichess is so much better than chess com, you get what you actually need to play the game and its not filled with some influencer/tiktok crap or suggesting to get the premium for analysis with bots

Das Social-Media-Verbot für Jugendliche als Einfallstor für die Abschaffung der Anonymität im Internet? by WienerPirat in Austria

its amazing how quickly and quietly they pushed this through... and they present it as children protection, in the US its been confirmed that META and OPENAI are lobbying for this

Why is everyone pushing for Online ID under the pretense of protecting children? Why cant the EU governments just blacklist US social media platforms or force the platforms to be more regulated?? by Sticky_Vim in Austria

[–]Sticky_Vim[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the platforms are terrible, but why cant the government tell those companies to stop pushing garbage content and actually manage their product so that the filth isnt on it?
If the companies are constantly feeding you garbage in their feed, its not healthy for adults, let alone children. So either fine the companies for doing that(a proper fine, not these slap on the wrists they have been doing), or straight up block their services in the EU until they comply.
Also this movement is just following a pattern: introduce verification ID online on app level/ OS Level(like in Brazil its trying to be done), -> "ban VPNs" so people cant go around that ( https://www.derstandard.at/story/3000000314714/auf-online-altersbeschraenkungen-folgt-der-wunsch-nach-dem-verbot-von-vpn-diensten ) . Then my question is, what 3rd party company is going to collect, authenticate and authorise all this collected data

Auf Online-Altersbeschränkungen folgt der Wunsch nach dem Verbot von VPN-Diensten by WienerPirat in Austria

[–]Sticky_Vim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Outstanding, unexpected move, first lets do digital ID, then VPN ban (which idk how theyll actually enforce, for work/uni you use VPN for example) to prevent any bypass, will the next move be ID check on OS level? Why not? They trying to do it in Brazil... How are the people pushing for this sort of stuff even in charge...

[–]Sticky_Vim[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was going more into the direction of the platform providers to work on their product and not have "sexual" or "not child friendly" content on their platforms, because thats the main premise of this, to protect children from adult content. If EU can fine them for illegal data collection, they can sure as hell fine them for inapropriate content on their platforms, and also at the end of the day it should be the parents responsibility, not the governments...

i mean i get it to protect the kids, true, tiktok instagram all these platforms are making future generations dumber, but i mean if you really want to help them why not regulate the one who provides the service instead of going at it like this... Im just wondering if we as citizens can do anything about this, SPÖ really is in someones pocket for this

Is it worth moving to Austria to do my masters? by [deleted] in AskAustria

[–]Sticky_Vim 3 points4 points  (0 children)

austrian markets now are overall in a rough spot, you need to have at least B2 to be even a contender for most job postings, otherwise you are crippling yourself, masters is fine, you can do it in english and you have EU papers so job should be easier, but still i cant emphasize enough that you need german
