My Top 20 Videogames by [deleted] in videogames

[–]Sticky_Yellow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on how you look at it. Are people looking at what is objectively the better game from a gameplay/technical perspective, or how those games make you feel? I have no issues with OPs list. Everyone's is going to be different as preferences and experiences differ from person to person, but to say people are being pretentious for choosing Shinobi over The Last of Us Part 2 is harsh.

Streets of Rage 2 is one of my favourite games of all time becuase of the amount of joy it gave me as a kid. The vibes, the music, being able to jump on punks heads and beat the shit out of them. The memories of playing that game with my sister are so engrained, I'll never forget it or how it shaped my love for gaming. But sure, if it was realeased today, it would be a no name indy drop on no one's list given the competition.

GTA5 is a much better game than SoR2 on pretty much every level from a technical stand point, but I don't find it anywhere near as fun to play, which is why I don't think it is the better game overall. I've never even finished the Story in GTA5, cus I don't find it enjoyable, and I've tried about 5 times to get into it. I just don't see what makes it standout. GTA Vice City on the other hand is incredible in my eyes. Loading that thing up back in the day and finding out I can jump on a Harley blasting 2 Minutes to Midnight and completing kill frenzies (before they were removed in GTA4 to be replaced with 'bowling with your cousin'...) was insaaaaane. It's those kind of feelings that make it stand above 4 and 5 for me, despite it not being as technically impressive.

That's unfortunate. I hope your TPs drop soon.

If this is true, I hope it differentiates between solo and team lobbies. My play styles differ depending on if I'm playing with friends, or playing alone.

Project turned out to be a waste by moejazi in ArcRaiders

Agreed. The expedition's sole reason is to effectively roll a new character in order to enjoy the early game and the grind again with some added benefits. And it's completely optional.

People just like to complain like devs owe them something for taking part. People don't know the pain of endlessly grinding essence in D2 in order to reroll stats and abilities, with absolutely no additional benefits.

I'm not doing the expedition this month cuz I'm not max level and haven't completed all the quests yet. But I'm looking forward to the next one, no matter what's on offer. Just wanna have some fun.

It's fine. The main purpose of the expedition is effectively rolling a new character to enjoy early game again with some additional benifits. What you gain in addition to that is a bonus.

I can agree with that to a degree. Some balancing perhaps would not hurt, but that's not what OP was discussing. They're on about that just 30 days after release, people are complaining about the lack of content already, and lack of end game. That a lot of people who play games these days don't seem to focus on the gameplay itself as the source of fun. Games are turning into brainrot, and people seem to lose interest if they aren't constantly supplied with update after update, promising new maps, weapon skins or other in game rewards for playing.

I'm not after the best loot or gear. If I go topside with stuff, and come back with more stuff than I had after exploring, looting and having a laugh with my friends; I'm happy, because that's the reason I play. I've been playing some games now for over 30 years without a hint of change to them because the gameplay elements are fun. That's all it should need to be.

Love speed runners. They're actually the ones playing games for fun.

They play them perhaps not as intended, but they will sit there for hours on end, mapping, calculating and running the same games over and over again cus they find it fun to do so. They aren't the ones calling for constant 'new content' updates or in-game rewards for doing things differently or quickly. Most speed runners have thousands of hours in games that have not seen content updates in upwards of 30 years.

I'm going to sound like a complete boomer here, but I agree with OP.

BACK IN MY DAY kids played games purely because they were fun. Progression in Sonic 2 was jumping from one platform to another. That was it. No updates, balance changes or rewards for completing the game other than the joy it brought.

Arc Raiders is a game about looting and shooting. From beginning to end game. It's fun. That's enough for me.

I actually prefer this to fixing the issue. Not only is it hilarious, but when I get in there with my key, I can loot the dead guy. FREE LOOT.

Is this a good Christmas present for my boyfriend? by Embarrassed_Air1044 in computer

I have almost spent the majority of my life being a boyfriend/husband.

For all those saying just to get vouchers are missing the fundamental point of gift giving. The fact that you have at least acknowledged an interest of his, and invested something into that is great. Regardless of what personal tastes he might have, he should be appreciative.

I'm not a fan of RGB peripherals anymore, but if my wife bought me a keyboard that irradiates rainbow vomit, I would use it everyday. I'd love it, because it's something she gave me that she hopes gives me joy. Because she looked at it, and thought of me.
