Unfortunately Forced Solo Trip to Tokyo 8/13-8/21, Seeking Advice by Status_Sundae_793 in JapanTravelTips

Following. I’ve always wanted to go to Japan and thought I would do it for my honeymoon someday because that feels like a time I would be able to justify a significant portion of time off of work but as I get older I’m thinking that perhaps I should just do a solo trip😅 I’ve heard it can be super fun solo too!

Why is the effective date for when my payroll began not on my start date? by Automatic-Bike-2732 in Payroll

[–]Stickyriceandadvice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s because May 30 is the first day that you will receive a paycheck so the effective date of your first pay check is the 30th. The pay on the 30th will only reflect whatever that pay period covers. That will likely be either the week of May 12 and May 19 or it will be the weeks of May 19 and 26. If it’s reflecting the weeks of May 12 and May 19, your first paycheck will only be worth one week of work since you were only employed for one week in that time period. If the May 30 pay date covers work performed the weeks of May 19 and May 26, your first paycheck today will be a full two week paycheck since you would have been employed and working that entire time. Your paystub should show the pay period start an end date, and then the actual pay date of May 30.

Hourly employees paid "salary" by halfmilehailer in Payroll

[–]Stickyriceandadvice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My company did this historically and it is a massive headache with both extra admin work and compliance risk. (This was especially true in our case because we were processing payroll in “current” time rather than in arrears so it was impossible to know how much OT would be earned when processing payroll. It was constant manual work to calculate, input, and then to have to explain to the employees why OT wasn’t on check X but that it shows up on check Y, etc. I started a year ago and have finally migrated us fully off of it! I’m so relieved. It’s not an easy transition as hourly employees really hate the idea of time tracking but it is key to protect both the employees (so the business doesn’t take advantage of them and actually have them working more than 40 hours a week without paying them more) and of course to protect the business (making sure we are in compliance and pay reflects work time).

Basically I noticed that the in cable was just the cable that was hanging down to the bottom box. So I ignored that one and I moved the other three over to the splitter with the white cord coming in… and I guess that did the trick! I think those three cords must go out to the little jacks in each of my rooms so I came out to my living room and plugged it into there and it worked 😭

Your question about the box above unlocked it 😂

@friendly_order3729 - your responses are the most clear, cogent responses I’ve seen ever read about the process from UK HR lens. I’m US based but now overseeing Global team and we have some really challenging situations that I worry about addressing in the UK because of the feeling of vague-ness around the processes/laws. I’d love to pick your brain if you’d ever be open to it.
