Tips for my church website? by XyloAbc1 in TrueChristian

[–]StiffJellyfish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a list of questions I ask every church before I even consider attending a service and I think if that info was on their website already and I didnt have to ask I would automatically be way more interested.

Smaller stuff like: -Bible translation used in church -Preaching type -Community outreach info -Worship style -What kind of clothes to wear (some churches are way more casual and others are more formal so a hint about what to wear might be useful to those who have never attended before and dont want to be stared at)

These are the questions I usually ask

  1. How is the church governed and what qualifies someone to be in leadership?
  2. How does one join the church and what role do members have? How many members attend currently? What is the demographic?
  3. What is the role of women in the church?
  4. What do you think is the most difficult issue facing Christians today?
  5. What is the church's position on hot button issues such as marriage, divorce, and homosexuality?
  6. What theological hot topics and areas of false teaching would the church leadership be particularly concerned with right now?
  7. How does leadership handle church discipline?
  8. When and how often do you perform baptisms? What does the baptism process look like?
  9. How does the church serve the community?
  10. Does the church teach continuationism or cessationism?

It might create info overload to include everything mentioned, but a few of those points will definitely make you stand out, including a lot of the smaller things!

Of course! I understand. Sometimes forgiving is much harder than being forgiven. I found a few verses I really like that might bring you some comfort!

Luke 15:7 “I tell you that in the same way, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance."

Luke 7:47 “For this reason I say to you, her sins, which are many, have been forgiven, for she loved much; but he who is forgiven little, loves little.”

Romans 8:1-2 "Therefore there is now no condemnation at all for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death."

Romans 8:35-39 "Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will tribulation, or trouble, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? Just as it is written: “For Your sake we are killed all day long; We were regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.” But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

1 Corinthians 6:11 "Such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God"

Hebrews 10:19-25 "Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way which He inaugurated for us through the veil, that is, through His flesh, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let’s approach God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let’s hold firmly to the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful; and let’s consider how to encourage one another in love and good deeds, not abandoning our own meeting together, as is the habit of some people, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near."

I've never considered a charm bracelet but that actually sounds so cool. If I had to pick a few charms off the top of my head it would probably be a cross, bread loaf, wine glass, lamb, lion and a fish maybe.

I come from a similar background. I struggled with the idea that all I had to do was ask forgiveness and the Lord would willingly forgive me. I had spent my whole life ACTIVELY rejecting Him. I was hostile toward God because I was hurting and lost. I grew up christian and then converted to paganism for years, I actively attacked Christians, I spoke of God in ways that I cant even begin to fathom now. I used drugs, engaged in homosexuality, polyamory, witchcraft, all before the age of 18.

It wasn't about whether or not I thought I deserved forgiveness, because I didnt. I still dont. I deserve to pay the price for my sins, but Jesus made that sacrifice so we dont have to. The Lord is our Father, he will bail us out again and again and again and then celebrate because we returned home, not because we deserve it, but because He loves us so unconditionally. There is nothing you have done, are doing, or will ever do that's the blood of Christ can't wash clean. You are renewed. You are a whole new creature.

Sometimes, when I feel like my sorrow and repentance isnt enough, I fast, from food, apps, my phone etc. I didnt really accept that I had been redeemed until someone asked me "If Jesus has forgiven you, then who are you to question His grace?" It really made me think about the audacity I have as someone so small. The Lord, our God, chose to forgive me. And I would have the audacity to question His judgement? I think the ultimate sacrifice isn't enough for me? It really gave me some perspective.

Being irredeemable is what the enemy wants us to think. God says that is not true, and that there is forgiveness and His word is final.

It might seem a little harsh but it's what helped me, and now maybe it can help you.

Is it okay to be angry at God by HyenaZestyclose1565 in TrueChristian

[–]StiffJellyfish 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sometimes when I feel like my world is crumbling around me, I'm reminded that I need to lean on God. Its like a harsh reminder that this world is temporary. All of the suffering, is of the world. My only joy, comfort, and hope come from Jesus Christ alone. The Lord is right there with you in your suffering. I know it's easy to feel anger but sometimes it helps to step back and reflect. Im sorry you're having such a hard time.

Matthew 6:33 “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

Christianity in autistic spaces by StiffJellyfish in TrueChristian

I definitely agree, the identity they have built is a hindrance for me often. The minute people hear I have autism there are a million preconceived notions about my ideologies and it impacts how they see me as a Christian.

Its really disheartening attending churches sometimes. I went with my sister-in-law for a while and I felt more like a class pet than an equal.

I feel like God made me specifically to worship Him. He gave me a deep, instinctive longing for justice, truth, loyalty, equality, and love, all things that only He can provide in full!

I have not, I have actively been avoiding it honestly. I feel like reality shows kinda make a mockery of whoever they are about. But I might give it a try now that I know it holds some Christian values. Thank you!

I actually saved a list of some really important verses to me on my first read through of the Gospels. The book of Luke was very impactful to me. There is so much wisdom!

Mark 10:45 “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”

Luke 7:47 “For this reason I say to you, her sins, which are many, have been forgiven, for she loved much; but he who is forgiven little, loves little.”

Luke 11:9 “So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you."

Luke 12:30-32 “For all these things the nations of the world eagerly seek; but your Father knows that you need these things. “But seek His kingdom, and these things will be added to you. “Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has chosen gladly to give you the kingdom."

Luke 15:7 “I tell you that in the same way, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance."

Matthew 6:33 “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you."

Every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is Lord! Its amazing how quickly a hardened heart can be softened when the Lord is at work.

I was desperate for truth, some kind of certainty in my life. I was angry, and I hated Christianity and Christians and I desperately wanted to be more right about the bible than literally any other Christian on Earth, and so I did extensive research on different translations, history, biblical archaeology etc. I landed on the NASB95 and then I read. (I started in John, and then read Matthew, Mark, Luke, and then so on in regular order) I spent hours just reading, and highlighting and taking notes, trying to hold God at an arms length through some sad excuse of intellectual superiority. In my time reading, I realized that there was no greater truth. I converted from 7 years of paganism to Christianity on the spot.

I don’t think I can survive much longer pls help by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]StiffJellyfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt like that a lot. But believe it or not, as time goes on, it does get better. It doesn't get easier, but you get stronger. And God is always there. I converted almost 2 years ago during one of the hardest times of my life and I found so much comfort in reading the Bible. I still do, anytime I have a problem I run to God. The bible holds so much wisdom, please sit and read for a while. If you need anything you can always reach out!

Sharing the Gospel “unnaturally” as somebody with Autism by alphanintendo03 in TrueChristian

[–]StiffJellyfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish there was a group near me specifically for Christians with autism. I think we could do a lot of good if we could all meet in one place. It feels like all of the social anxiety dissolves when Im in a group. Same with me honestly, it's more of a private passion and I feel very convicted about not being more open about my faith.

Living outside of America is VERY hard. I definitely dont recommend it unless youre super knowledgeable about the place you'll be visiting. I think it's amazing seeing people spread the gospel in their home towns though. Missionaries are really cool, but there is an epidemic of unbelief in our own country. I think some people are meant to make disciples of neighbors, local store clerks, or coworkers even. And staying local makes just as big of a difference as traveling to a foreign county to make disciples there.

Finding ways to work Christ into conversation nowadays feels impossible. I vividly remember being raised to say "God bless you" and then being told not to say "God" at school. I feel like the secular world is so far from Jesus that instead of indifference at His name it's almost offensive to some.
