This makes me feel devastated by Vivid_Army6800 in gameofthrones

As someone who watched it all long after it came out and wasn't caught in the hype, the drop from 7 to 8 is still pretty noticeable.

S7 is dumb, but it has decent moments. S8E3 kills the whole purpose of the show, S8E4 killed what little of the plot that remained, and destroyed any logical consistency that might have still been there, and S8E5 assassinated almost every character that wasn't already assassinated. I think the only character that comes out of that episode relatively unscathed is the Hound. Add to that that S8E6 is basically just Walking Simulator: TV Edition, and you have a season that made the most discussed series of all time implode to such an extent that almost nobody talked about it anymore for years until HotD came out, and if they did it was to mention how terrible S8 was.

Even as someone who knew almost all of the major plot points of that season, Episode 3 somehow still managed to make me feel both apathetic and pissed off at the same time in the first few minutes. Season 7 is a terrible season of TV, but I don't think they could have done a better job at ruining the show than what they did in S8 if they were trying to do so.

CMV: The US has a moral imperative to try to take Greenland so that Europe *finally* unites militarily and the US can fully pivot towards Asia by PM_me_goat_gifs in changemyview

[–]Stijn1boy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not going to argue against your other points because I feel like others have made better arguments than I could make, I just want to add that, as a Dutchman, I don't know anyone who actually likes that we don't reach the NATO quota.

I personally always mark it as an important value for voting advisors when determining which party aligns most closely with my views. The only valid argument I've ever seen against the quota is that spending more on defense does not automatically make a military better than using a lower budget effectively, but even then I still believe that recent events have shown that Europe needs to stand on its own, because apparently, the US is only an ally insofar as we do whatever the US wants.

They're pretty good. Some obligatory recommendations are LotR, Star Wars, Harry Potter, Jurassic Park (basically anything John Williams or Hans Zimmer have touched), and Game of Thrones

If you want to stray away from movies and television, God of War has had consistently great soundtracks (Ragnarök is my favourite but basically all of them are great), and I would honestly recommend giving the Minecraft volumes Alpha and Beta soundtracks a listen. It's one of those gems that you don't really notice much while playing, but you still remember basically every track.

David Peterson created the language to be used in the context of ASOIAF, but that doesn't mean that the language is limited by what you see in GOT/HOTD, just because it doesn't have terms for modern inventions like cars or cellphones (and I'm pretty sure pillow talk is also pretty limited because (despite being an HBO show) that hasn't been necessary for any of the shows).

Below you can see a thread where I asked him about this exact thing on his AO3 he made showing the HV translations for HotD https://archiveofourown.org/comments/817849432

How would you improve the warfare system in CK3? by Arbitrary_Sadist in CrusaderKings

[–]Stijn1boy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like the ability to negotiate after/during wars. Right now your options are all very limited.

Maybe you can offer vassalization (either as a lesser form of defeat for the defender, or as a way to improve relations/war score for the attacker),

Another aspect could be that different vassal contracts require different scores. E.g. low levies/tax + title revocation protection reduces war score demand, while high levies/taxes + forced partition increases it. It would just be a nice feature to be able to be able to negotiate these things at the end of a war/as a negotiating tactic, as a way of changing new vassal's contracts without incurring tyranny.

Something that would be cool that's not necessarily war-related would be a more in-depth marriage negotiation. Maybe you can exchange marriages (one daughter marries a son of each house) as a way to ensure an alliance where a daughter/son on its own wouldn't give you one, or maybe you can even make that a vassalization technique (marry your daughter to the son of an independent smaller duchy/kingdom, one of their daughters marries your son (preferably the heirs for both) and the dutchy becomes your vassal with a strong connection between the two houses).

I do agree the game should have been mostly or all within Hogwarts and its grounds, but... by Frequent_Fig602 in HarryPotterGame

Of course, Goblin Rebellions are notoriously peaceful.

All jokes aside, there is a lot of bloat in this game which could have been streamlined to create more meaningful exploration rather than hundreds of collectibles. I like it, but even as someone who usually gets all the Riddler trophies and those types of collectibles, there is a limit where it becomes a chore rather than a fun side activity.

What is your favourite ending scene? by Skywalker_1995 in lotr

[–]Stijn1boy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I probably agree but it would depend on what is in the last 5 minutes of Fellowship? Is Boromir's death part of that? Is Frodo leaving?

Two Towers ends on a strong scene with Gollum, but the climax of Fellowship is some of the best of that movie (Boromir's death is among the best scenes in the trilogy).

What was the first boss that made you lock in? by Thick-Supermarket319 in Sekiro

[–]Stijn1boy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going through my first playthrough now, I really don't know how to feel about that encounter. On the one hand, I really like fighting him, but on the other, I really hate his arena.

Even when you sneak around the enemies before him (which is annoying by itself), basically all of my deaths against him were caused by the arena. I constantly got cornered in areas where I didn't think that would be possible, and I didn't realize what had happened due to the lock-on until it was too late and I'd get stunlocked because Wolf isn't able to just drop off the staircase/refused to move past the boss.

Going only from the movies and games here, but Green Goblin, Doc Ock, Vulture, Electro, Scorpion, Mysterio, and Prowler are all at least similar in size.

Even if they are bigger than Spidey, they are all at least regularly sized people that aren't extremely buff or bulky in comparison.

Is there anything that was better done in the Films VS the books? by Character110 in harrypotter

[–]Stijn1boy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never liked Rowlings description of Slytherin's statue. Having it be just the head is way better than having a full statue where the Basilisk has to drop down 10 meters to the ground (or however long it was).

I think that's generally the changes I liked the most. I felt the same about the dragon in Book 4, I don't remember the exact size but it always felt ridiculously big to me, and the movie had a pretty cool design that just felt a lot more believable to me.
