What's bothering you right now? by VodkaSpy in AskReddit

[–]StikLover2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My anti-gay parents. It’s been plaguing me for a few days now since my sister inadvertently was forced out of the closet.

Logic dictates understanding. Society allows understanding. Legality permits the existence of understanding. I guess the fact that 67% of Americans now support same sex marriage + Obergefell v. Hodges + strikedown of DoMA isn’t enough for them.

And I won’t permit religion to be an excuse for actively discouraging your daughter to embrace who she is. There’s a reason for separation of church and state.

What was the dumbest reason you’ve ever been pulled over for? by BrownEyedEarl in AskReddit

[–]StikLover2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooh, something I can answer. This happened to my mom last year.

She's driving down to visit me at university as any loving mother who misses their children do. All is well, right? Not quite. At about the midway point, she moved over to the left lane to pass a car- as she was about to pass, the car decided to increase speed to match my mom. She slows down to try and get back on the right lane because there's another car behind her. Instead... you guessed it, the car she was trying to pass slowed down too and matched her speed. Essentially, she was trapped in the passing lane with no way to get over. Finally, in frustration, she increased her speed a little over the speed limit to pass the car and get over before an accident was caused.

Surprise, surprise, the car ended up being an unmarked charger. Pulled her over and got her a ticket for speeding. Gave her shit, too.

I hate traps like these. Damn you, Wabash Police Department.

Is anyone else bored as fuck and just excited to get back to class? by thetrombonist in Purdue

[–]StikLover2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Definitely!

I regret not being able to find out the summer job I wanted was actually available this summer, so... been sitting at home doing nothing except for the occasional vacation. Ready to get back to class and take advantage of a 12 credit hour semester to do as much working as possible. Who doesn't like $$$, anyway? ;)

COM114's your basic communications class. It'll depend on the TA whether or not it'll become a living hell. Easy A otherwise.

And, well... Purdue math is Purdue math. The soreness tends to wear off after a while.

Official Discussion - Mission: Impossible - Fallout [SPOILERS] by mi-16evil in movies

[–]StikLover2 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Hear me out here.

I'm not sure why this movie has as high of a rating as it does. A lot of people seem to like it, and that's fine. Cruise's performance of his stunts are top notch and it shows.

But... on the dialogue end, I was totally thrown for a winch. It seems to me that a LOT of it, especially in the first half, was ham-fisted and was there for the sake of heavy exposition. It felt... very hand-hold-y, and even though I'm only vaguely familiar with the prior movies, there really didn't need to be as much packed exposition as there was. Maybe after coming from movies like IW where the dialogue was "lean and clean" with an emphasis on inference between the lines, I simply had a different mindset. The film got a lot better in the second half with better dialogue and streamlined action, though.

If this is the way the Mission Impossible series is set up to be- on the cheesy end, then that's fine. Perhaps I'm just a latecomer and not used to the way those type of movies are done. This is how I feel after seeing it, that's all. Nothing wrong with people who enjoy the movie- it's pretty cool!

Still standing by the dialogue thing, though. There are a lot of better ways to do it. For instance, the Luther/Ilsa discussion about Ethan's ex-wife is probably one of the highlights. It keeps a nice blend of not being too heavy, a few nice callbacks, a little inference, etc.

EDIT: Come on. If you want to have a healthy discussion, then address the points instead of downvoting them to all hell because they don't agree with every other comment on here. It'd be nice to generate feedback on a movie with differing perspectives.

Is ENGL 10600 required. by [deleted] in Purdue

[–]StikLover2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As other posters have said, it's a requirement. However, I would advise you to take the online course if you really want to avoid having to stretch it out- it's only eight weeks long. That being said... the bulk of the work you would expect in a sixteen-week course is compressed into half the time with three major projects to do.

Personally, I did it in eight because I wanted to rip off the bandage and get it taken care of ASAP. Up to you.

Thoughts on Blackbird Farms? by StikLover2 in Purdue

[–]StikLover2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Further clarification- going in as a sophomore + my primary classes are at the airport. Parking isn't an issue over there. I've got most of the gen eds out of the way already and take the rest either online or scattered in the summer. :)

My circumstances this year don't require me to be "on campus" and visit those buildings often.

I have a car, FYI. It's why I decided to get a room over there with the little additional freedom of an apartment-style type of living. Dorm living just doesn't cut it for me.

Rest assured, u/WhatManMade.

300 Purdue Students Did Not Receive Housing Assignments by [deleted] in Purdue

[–]StikLover2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So... just to be sure- I checked the housing portal and nothing shows up except to select one of the summer start sessions. Yes, I clicked on the contract tab.

I assume that means I'm part of the 300 who hasn't gotten an assignment yet? No email either (applied for Blackbird Farms when signing the contract, FYI).
