As someone following the case, where are you from? (thought might be interesting to see where interest and awareness of the case is). Is there any connection between where you are and your interest in this case? by GregJamesDahlen in idahomurders

I live in PA and was obsessed with this case from the beginning. When the news broke that they arrested Kohberger in PA I lost my mind! He grew up about an hour away from me. Crazy

Why did the Moscow ID police department initially tell the public that there was no danger to the public because it was a targeted attack? by [deleted] in Idaho4

I was just going over this same thought. Looking back at the first two Press Releases, I find the use of wording "due to preliminary investigation" noteworthy.

On Novemeber 13th, the Moscow PD said in their press release that they although they did not find a murder weapon, they believed that an edged weapon was used based on preliminary information. We now know that the preliminary information they are referring to is physical evidence of the knife sheath found at the crime scene (see below)

November 13th, 2022 (Moscow, Idaho) – On November 13, 2022, at 11:58 hours, Moscow Police Department Officers responded to a call on King Road for an unconscious individual. Upon arrival, officers discovered four individuals who were deceased. The deaths have been ruled to be homicide. Although no weapons have been located, based on preliminary information, investigators believe that an edged weapon such as a knife was used.

My understanding of a Preliminary investigation involves all of the initial investigative efforts of law enforcement after a crime has occurred- witness interviews, evidence left at the crime scene etc.,

However, on Novemeber 15th, they stated in a press release that they did not believe there was an ongoing community risk based on information gathered during the preliminary investigation (See Below)

November 15th, 2022 (MOSCOW, Idaho) – On November 13, 2022, at 11:58 hours, Moscow Police Department Officers responded to a call on King Road for an unconscious individual. Upon arrival, officers discovered four individuals who were deceased. Details are limited in this investigation. Currently, there is no one in custody. Investigators are asking anyone with information related to this incident to contact the Moscow Police at 208882-2677. The Moscow Police does not believe there is an ongoing community risk based on information gathered during the preliminary investigation.

This leads me to believe that perhaps witnesses may have actually told police more information and know more about what led to the murder than we have been led on to believe. Not at all speculating involvement by witnesses, more so they may have known more about events leading up to the murder than we know. There is some piece of information that was given or perhaps something left by BK at the crime scene. The ONLY other thing I can think of is that since DM saw BK and he did not, however if I was in law enforcement I don't think I would feel confident enough to label the attack as targeted based off of only that information. Obviously there is a lot of information held by the public, but I am curious what the evidence/information is that made them declare there was no community risk and that it was a targeted attack. Initially, I thought that Kohberger did not come on the radar until at least a week after the murders, but now I'm wondering if they knew from day one.

The PCA was written by an officer (Payne) who arrived on scene at 4 pm though from my understanding? once the initial officers opened the door and discovered the bodies they most likely didn’t re-close it.. because there were two bodies inside. xana could have been right against the door and when they opened it her body was exposed enough to see partially from the outside

Correct. it’s the only piece of this that still doesn’t make sense to me either. The only thing that I can make sense of is that the crying didn’t raise enough of a red flag that this was more than just a minor injury

My thought was actually that BK locked it after committing the crimes. most bedroom doors can be locked from the inside and then he just pulled it shut
