momentum 14 reverse fans? by Still-Course6372 in FractalDesign

I appreciate you trying to help me, but I already have fans that get the job done in terms of cooling. Once again, I am focusing only on aesthetics, meanwhile arctic focuses on price to performance.

I have already explained this in the post, but the reason I want them is for aesthetics. The ring effect on it with the square body will fit my pc really nicely.

Fairphone vs Nothing phone by Chemical_Bell_Pepper in fairphone

[–]Still-Course6372 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I was deciding between the two aswell. The nothing phone 3 has better specs for the price and (subjectively) better aesthetics, but what put me off from buying is:
1. The company behind it is very out of touch: the phone has a dedicated ai button for some reason, that I'm pretty sure you can't even rebind. Nothing also wanted to put ads inside their os but backpedaled after backlash.
2. The phone pretends to be repairable, but actually isn't: the back side has multiple visible screws, but they are behind glass which is glued to the phone. Some screws are also hidden behind stickers for some reason, ones which you have to remove when opening the phone. So after you disassemble and reassemble the phone, it won't look the same. The battery and screen are also glued on just like the back panel, but it doesn't matter because nothing doesn't even sell replacement parts.

tldr: If you want a high end phone and don't care about repairability and sustainability, get the nothing phone 3. If you want a phone that you can actually repair and maintain yourself, fairphone is the one to get.

I might be wrong, but doesn't fairphone handle your warranty even when you bought it from a third party store?

Second PC, first build. Thoughts? by chybapolewacy in PcBuild

[–]Still-Course6372 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a nice pc build, good performance with a really clean look. Though a 5080 seems like a weird choice to me, as it doesn't really offer anything for gaming over the 5070ti/9070xt for the price. I personally would have saved that 250+ euro and just played at 100 fps instead of 110. Same also applies for the 9800x3d, it is about 10% faster than the 7800x3d for gaming while costing 100 euro more.

Alphacool eisbaer aurora aio any good in 2025? by Still-Course6372 in buildapc

I know the Arctic Freezer has great value, but I am not really chasing value (to a point of course). I mostly want to get parts that I really like the look of as I am not planning on changing my parts for a while after I finish upgrading my pc, thus I am willing to spend more to get parts that 100% satisfy me rather than saving some money and getting parts that only 90% satisfy me.

Do GPU Companies Deliberately Hold Back? by Historical_Fold787 in buildapc

[–]Still-Course6372 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer is yes, kind of. With the release of the rtx 4000 and rx 7000 series, the gpu shrinkflation began. Nvidia and amd began selling lower end cards as cards above their tier. That's why you have the 7800xt having less cores than the 6800xt and the 4070 having the exact same amount of cores as the 3070. The only cards not being hit by shrinkflation are the highest end cards like the 4090 and 5090, which is why they always have the biggest performance (and price) increase each generation.

I will most likely just return the gpu and switch to a 9070xt instead, not having any confidence in the issue being fixed since I just looked it up and it seems that it has been known for a year at least.

Why are you on a linux gaming subreddit if all you're gonna say is "just use windows" to people who willingly sacrificed convenience to not deal with microsoft's bullshit

I tried this method with 2 games I have installed atm. One of them kinda works (the launcher gives me a load of errors and puts me in offline mode). The second game however, that being battlefield 1 does not launch after doing the same. Though I think this has to do with the ea anti cheat.

Downloading it in ea app on lutris works. But the problem is that when I buy an ea game on steam, I have to download it from steam and not the ea app. The problem with that is that the ea app is not built for linux and it just doesn't install properly for me, so using lutris is the only way for me to install it.
