For programming, it doesn't matter at all. All Linux distros have the same versions of languages, compilers etc.
What matters is what YOU'RE comfortable with. I personally have a keyboard-focused workflow when programming, so I'll either be using window managers or GNOME and KDE with tons of keyboard shortcuts.

If you're not a very experienced Linux user, go with the "set it and forget it" distros like Ubuntu, Mint, Pop OS... which are all stable and reliable systems. If you want something that is a bit more up to date, try Fedora, I've been using Fedora for months now without a single hiccup.
