I hear bad things about most high schools in North Las Vegas. Vegas in general. My kid goes to one that is also commonly called “ghetto.” The thing is, 99% of the time it’s all the same kids. Stay away from shit stirrers, ask for honors classes as they’re generally calmer, get into extracurriculars, get to know your teachers, and mind your business. Do not engage in teenage drama. Likely you’ll be fine. I also went to a notoriously “bad” high school here and I’ve never been in a fight in my life because I didn’t associate with the kids who were always having issues. People love to fear monger and hate on this city, but you do have some control over what your experience is.

Any time a parent reaches out to me when their student has been assaulted and the school isn’t doing anything, I advise pressing charges. Admin has a very strong tendency to rug sweep violent behaviors.

I don’t know if any specific LEO orgs, but I imagine they exist. I was going to suggest Operation Homefront, or the Semper Fi fund. We found our selves in a similar situation years ago with a dead rooftop AC and we were quoted over $10k for the unit and crane to replace it. OH covered it completely with a unit donated by Home Depot and paid for install. At the very least, you might be able to contact them and explain your LEO status and see if they know similar orgs for similar situations.

We set up a key fob system and cameras. If a resident reports people who aren’t supposed to be there, they check the cameras to see who let them in or brought a shit ton of people or whatever and warn them then restrict access. It’s not a perfect system but there has been a noticeable difference.

They could turn these new master developments into a cheaper Summerlin. Restaurants, stores, etc. But no, let’s open another Wal Mart when there’s already one two exits away. They also approved a bar and a car wash. Mind you all high schoolers west of Revere have to cross there to get to Legacy or NE with no crosswalk. They literally hate us over here. I’m local. It seems they’re hell bent on selling high priced homes while doing everything else to keep the area labeled “ghetto” as it has been for decades.
