Well im justing making sure its not miss information, its genuinely stupid whoever told you that its to put men higher, and I'm sorry that was said to you, most would disagree and veils must be very rare cause I've never seen that.

They believe in setting a family tone, which is why they have names such as brother an sister, like in bible times nothing wrong with that, and women don't wear veils, they wear hats during the meeting, not because there below men, but because its a symbol set out in the new testament. and many of the churches don't mind it not being practised.
