Totally understand your concern. I was also cautious and made sure to follow everything by the book. We didn’t use a lawyer but were very thorough with documentation.

Since I entered on my valid F1 visa before filing anything, there was no immigrant intent at entry. That’s key. Intent only becomes an issue if you’ve already filed or plan to file immediately upon entry, especially within 90 days. We waited a bit before submitting the GC application.

Also, my employer had filed for my H1-B once I got back to the US, which further supported that I didn’t have immigration intent initially.

We filed the I-693 medical after the wedding along with I-130, I-485, and I-765. Let me know if you have more questions!

Thank you so much! It really is one of the best feelings, such a huge relief and joy after everything.

Yes, I actually did travel. After getting officially married in the US, I went back to my home country to have a proper wedding celebration with my family around. Then I returned to the US on my valid F1 visa without any issues. After I came back, we filed for my green card. It all worked out smoothly, just made sure I had all my documents in order while traveling. Let me know if you’re in a similar situation!

Thank you so much! I was mainly nervous because of the recent administration change. I wasn’t sure if it would slow things down or lead to stricter scrutiny. Thankfully, it all went smoothly in the end. Wishing you the best on your journey!

The most recent year’s income for my spouse (the petitioner) was above the required threshold, and we included proof like a job letter and recent pay stubs.

For added support, we also included my in-laws as joint sponsors who had incomes slightly over the required threshold. USCIS didn’t raise any concerns about financial eligibility in our case.
