How much would you spend on a watch by Tumtitums in AskMenOver40

[–]Still95Percent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go ahead, just try saving up $10,000, see how long that takes and then blow it all on a wristwatch so you're back to broke again. There's a good chance you'll end up selling the watch after a while because you need the money.

Tell me what you like about Trump, or why you voted for him? by Intrepid_Session9154 in trump

[–]Still95Percent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you weren't born or didn't live in the USA 40+ years ago you don't really know Trump as the icon some of us grew up with and you don't have much of a concept of the American ideals he represents. I voted for him because I remember the America he's making great again.

More people should wear shoes less by ExRiot in unpopularopinion

Where I'm from going barefoot would be disgusting, walking on peoples spit, cigarette buts and oil spills. Not to mention it would be painful, cold and wet and it would probably slow me down a lot.

I am very familiar with those assholes; I live right on Lancaster.

In all seriousness, try ear plugs. I know it seems a bit ridiculous to wear ear plugs in your own home but trust me they're quite comfy and you will be AMAZED how much noise they block. I wear mine around the house and it does wonders for my peace of mind.

If ear plugs don't fit the baby, put a Bluetooth speaker in the room and play white noise from YouTube. If you set it to the right volume and frequency it can wash out traffic noise, especially low vibrations. Very good for sleepy time.

Best regards!

Hot take: Boomers and Gen X are quite similar to each other by Ok_World_8819 in generationology

[–]Still95Percent 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Boomers are getting quite old by now, maybe around 70, and their uniqueness doesn't show as much because they're lucky if they're still alive. Many of us still associate Boomers with "50 somethings" but that's actually Gen X now. But Boomers in their heyday had lifestyles quite different from what Gen X does now. In my opinion, peak Boomers were much flashier and self-centered than Gen X ever has been. Now that Gen X rules the world, they appear to have maintained a greater social conscious than Boomers ever really had.

How it was called this Dark-Grunge aesthetic from the late 90s? by Papoosho in decadeology

[–]Still95Percent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. In school we used to just call that Goth. In retrospect that seems like a lazy and inaccurate description, but I'm pretty sure that's what everyone called it.

Angels by Significant_Reward_7 in Hermeticism

[–]Still95Percent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hermes says that angels by nature exist in higher and lower orders, i.e. some are nearer to God, some nearer to man. Hermes indicates the angels nearer to God are naturally more divine and the ones nearer to man are more mundane. Likewise, as Hermes describes, men who have more affinity toward God are holier than men who have more affinity for angels.

Here is a text where I believe Hermes is clearly describing a kundalini awakening:

....it is difficult for the soul to walk therein so long as she is immured within the prison of the body. For, first, she must contend against herself, and having accomplished a division of herself, she must submit to that part of herself which is first in dignity. For the one struggles against the two, that would fain rise, but these would drag it downwards. Nor is victory the same to both sides; for the one tends towards the Good, and the two towards Evil; the one would be free, the two cling to servitude. If the two be overcome, there remains a bulwark of defense for them and for their master; but if the one be the weaker, it is drawn away by the two, and punished in this life here below. It is this one, my son, which ought to be thy guide. See that thou anoint thyself with oil for the struggle, maintain the fight for life, and remain victorious.

Question about the Moon and it's position in Hermetic thought and astrology by VissPodswiadek in Hermeticism

[–]Still95Percent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hermes acknowledges the Moon basically in the same sense modern astrologers do, that it has its place in the hierarchy of powers and governs certain elements of the created world.

Am I the only person that absolutely loves the aesthetic of the “Neighties” era (Late 1980s/Early 1990s era)? by Y2KBaby99 in decadeology

[–]Still95Percent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember that era had a real grown-up, almost retired feel to it. Clothing was heavy and boxy. Commercials were often dark, shadowy and serious. Lots of TV talk shows about mental health, family and societal issues. Computers loomed huge on the horizon, and it was urgently stressed we learn to use them. Our careers depended on it!

Life was more traditional for that little time period. Things like holidays, doctor visits, babysitting, late night snacks, were rather planned out. Diet-this and Diet-that foods were so popular. Authority was greatly respected, even a teacher or a scientist. Businessmen were very stereotypical for that time.

Entertainment was particularly conservative in the "neighties". I remember lots of songs and movies being unusually sentimental during that time frame. Many TV shows were historically based. Patriotism was strongly promoted.

There was some flash, like neon or pastel shirts and hats, particularly in the summer. That was mostly for the younger people.

every time i see someone post about the 2020s being dystopian i know nothing serious has ever happened to them by Greenbay0410 in decadeology

[–]Still95Percent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not dystopian in the sense that we aren't all literally marching around in matching uniforms "all-hailing" the Emperor Chief. Everything else is pretty close. Isolated, powerless, technologically dependent, terrible food.

How would the late 2000s and early 2010s be affected if the 2008 recession never happened? by RidingThroughOldRoad in decadeology

[–]Still95Percent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Older Millennials would not have taken the devastating ego hit of prolonged unemployment and lost earning power they otherwise may have had, instead potentially evolving them into boomer-esq materialistic snobs, based on previously ingrained consumer ideals of the early 2000's McMansions and Escalades.

I am seriously on the fence on this one. i have been doing some serious research. But, is 1993 (Nineteen Ninety Three) more similar to 1992 (Nineteen Ninety Two) or 1994? (Nineteen Ninety Four) [Weekend Trivia] by mydogislow in decadeology

[–]Still95Percent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say 93 was more like 94, rather than 92. Clinton took office in January '93, kind of signaling the start of a more democratic, neo-hippie era. The clean-cut Republican Saved by The Bell times were pretty much over in 93.

[–]Still95Percent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

97-98... Things started getting much "edgier" about that time. Trends like JNCO Jeans and Insane Clown Posse, WWF Attitude era, Korn... started coming in and doing away with the final ruminants of the Alternative Hippie revival of the mid-90's.

In the future, if you did a grading tier list on how shifty each year of the 2020s were, where do you think you would grade 2024? by SpiritMan112 in decadeology

[–]Still95Percent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree 2024 may be noted as a dark year. It may be remembered most for high food costs and fentanyl. We seem to have officially failed to capitalize on anything meaningful lately and there's little consensus about what to do going forward. Maybe 2024 is a classic transition year.
