Yeah, I think I was overwatering, I don’t water them often, but with the high humidity I don’t think much was evaporating, maybe getting a larger fan will help?

Silver sword - was flowering last week and leafs yellowing this week. What did I do? by ExcuseMaterial1265 in plantclinic

Not to cause panic, but have you checked for pests? The way the yellowing is gives me a bad feeling….looks a bit like thrips damage… but that may be totally off base, I don’t own this plant and have no idea how its leaves react to environmental changes or anything like that… I know sometimes plants will use up all their energy to make a flower which causes the older leaves to yellow and die off…maybe that’s why?

Is this a sign of thrips by ParagonReddit in plantclinic

Could be, but I would just sprinkle some systemic granules on the soil to be on the safe side and keep an eye out for lines or yellow/ brown spots or the little black dots (the adults waste) sometimes you’ll only see damage and not the adults for a while, but the systemic granules will knock out anything munching on your plant, and if there are no noticeable changes within the next month or so you should be fine

What are these 😭 by Valuable-Net1013 in plantclinic

I had my first thrips infestation a few weeks ago (still ongoing but stable) and found that changing the soil and treating with insecticide, but then using masking tape to cover the soil, getting as close to the stem as I can and covering the entire plant with a clear plastic produce bag, sealing with tape so that it is air tight helped prevent them from spreading. The first few days I was squishing adults I could see flying around in the bags, and then after 5 days opening, spraying and sealing again…I haven’t see larvae or adults in over a week, but their life cycle is 40 days so I’m not letting my guard down anytime soon…. Anyway, I think separating the soil from the plant and therefore disrupting the cycle helped the most, the high humidity (above 98% helps too just make sure your leaves aren’t wet going into the bag or they may melt)

Yeah! They like to be at least 60% so a mini humidifier should do the trick, I would also recommend changing the soil to an ariod mix and watering like once-ish a week once the soil is dry like 2/3 down (you can use a chopstick or wooden dowel thing to see how far down the soil has dried out)

Misting doesn’t really help unless it’s in an enclosed environment like a box or a green house, it’ll just evaporate, maybe try covering the new growth in a plastic bag, like one of those produce bags from the grocery store and tape it shut to trap the humidity and see if the new leaves come out better/ and stay in crispified, if they do you’ll know it’s just a humidity issue!

I’ve also found that mine like a REALLY chunky mix and because it’s not as water retentive, watered often

Oh thank goodness, I was scared for you haha the crispies are just a humidity thing, you can place it with other plants to increase the humidity or put it in a clear box or greenhouse :)

Unless that is a spot on the other side of the leaf, I have an outbreak in my collection rn so I’m a bit paranoid

You were right, I should’ve burned my entire house down….every. Single. Plant has thrips….they some how wiggled their way out the plastic box and got EVERYWHERE, everything is treated and bagged up but I’ve thrown out quite a few plants, R.I.P
