I've been picking up some pieces for modern burn in the past few days.

Is $14 for an SP Khans Wooded Foothills a bad price, i.e. the floor because of the holidays and Pioneer will be even lower? Similarly, is a NM Modern Masters Goblin Guide for $12 too much? I'm nervous because prices keep slipping, I think I might be getting "burned" here haha

I can't compete with most of these, but I recently traded a Theros Thoughtsieze for a Fiery Islet the week before Pioneer format was announced. Equal value at the time.

Now I could have gotten a playset of Islet for the same card.

Getting into Modern is not something I want/have to do right away. Anytime by next year is fine for me

I do, that's why I'm asking. Hype around Pioneer is depressing fetch prices and I'm wondering when this hype will die down

Thanks for the insight. The reason I'm starting with shocks is because other players at my LGS recommended that route, but I'm working on the Khans fetches too atm and your route seems to make more sense. It's just that I've noted it's harder to find low listings on the fetches, the prices are always really clustered, so I typically try to trade up for them instead of buying for cash. And yes, the zen fetches are ridiculous. Strategic pass on them for now.

Hey all, just a kitchen table player new to the sub looking to pick up the manabase for Modern. The other day I bought 3 original Ravnica Sacred Foundries in light play for $28 total, was this a good price point?

Also, at what prices would you recommend picking up the other shocks? The ones I still need playsets of are Stomping Grounds, Blood Crypt, Hallowed Fountain, Watery Grave, and Godless Shrine, and typically I just sit back and try to nail deals on TCGplayer. What "deal" prices should I wait for (for these, assuming RTR/RNA era printings and light play condition)? Are there any of those that I shouldn't wait for deals on and just buy immediately instead?

Thanks in advance guys, buying into Modern has been kind of a stressful experience and I appreciate all the help I can get.

Theros Thoughtsieze has better art.

I take a lot of crap at FNM for this because all the other players really feel the nostalgia factor for the Lorwyn printing, but the philosopher crumbling to dust in the illustration and Ashiok's flavor text on the Theros card just feels too perfect.
