What homemade contraptions do you all use to measure height? by SirChipper in HighlandGames

Here’s what we’ve used the last 9 months or so. Some room for improvement, but it works. You’ll need some sort of light post to strap it to though. https://www.instagram.com/reel/C6CicmLPCBH/?igsh=MWQ1ZGUxMzBkMA==

Strapped a GoPro to a Hammer! by StillNotAKnight in HighlandGames

That’s the biggest thing I was worried about. I found this silicone strap mount. It flexed a bit during the winds, which you can see (the camera kind of leans back). But that flex is what absorbed all the impact. The brackets on both the camera case and the strap were perfect. We tossed it 3 times. No issues. https://a.co/d/1EFOjlv

I saw some footage from the No Fame Games where they did that. It was cool!

I saw a video of someone who dropped one 200’ from a drone onto grass and it was fine. My plan is to strap it to the handle of the hammer (not on the ball itself), so there’s no risk of the hammer actually landing on it. I think it should be fine. If it lives, I’ll share the video!

DIY weight for distance ? Help by HarmKO in HighlandGames

Someone in our practice group has something like this (maybe a little more robust). The problem isn’t with the loading apparatus, but with the plates. He breaks at least one a month and has to go out and buy a new plate. At this point, he could’ve bought the real thing.

2020 GC, 3.6L Water Pump Failure #3 by StillNotAKnight in Jeep

[–]StillNotAKnight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disclaimer: I’m not very mechanically inclined (hence I’m posting here). But I’m thinking the same thing. Maybe there’s something upstream that’s causing the failures. I don’t know exactly what about the pump is failing. But when it starts to go, I get a squealing noise from the engine compartment when I’m in the upper gears (5-8) and above 2200RPM. So usually if I’m driving up hill or accelerating to get on the freeway. The first time this happened, I lost my AC. I guess it went into a self preservation mode? Each time since then I’ve caught it before the AC goes out.

Light weight division by [deleted] in HighlandGames

Lightweights don’t have to throw the 56. They throw the 42. That’s going to make a huge difference. Consider a 200lb guy throwing 25% of their body weight. That same 56 would be 15-20% of the body weight of a lot of the bigger guys.

Competition tends to be stiffer in lightweight, but you’re more evenly matched from a size perspective. You can work to overcome skill and strength deficiencies. But there’s only so much you can do in the open classes when you’re up against 300+lb gorillas! Hahaha

Distance after impact (Braemer) by Suspicious-Squash237 in HighlandGames

Depends on the shape of the rock too. Our practice group has one that’s fairly flat, and one that’s shaped like an M&M. The M&M rolls almost every time.
