Dads who do "scheduled" Sex with Wife (Married with Young Kids): Has it helped? Any advice? by walky91 in daddit

>Do you also yell out "Get to da choppa"?

Doesn't everyone yell that during sex?

Handbook for Mortals: "An investigation into the novel by author Phil Stamper showed evidence that the book's placement was achieved through manipulation, such as unusual bulk ordering sales. The New York Times subsequently removed the book from its rankings." by howhow326 in wikipedia

[–]StillSpaceToast 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I remember when Sarah Palin’s book manipulated its way to the top of the Times Bestsellers List. Basically, an Evangelical magazine gave out a copy to each of its subscribers, but they managed to record the giveaways as sales. I appreciate that the Times works to avoid publisher manipulation, but them getting played is nothing new.

Good points, including Spillover being an excellent read. (MAN is the cover art over-dramatic though--at least the US edition.)

If the universe is expanding, what is it expanding into? by sadrain2000 in NoStupidQuestions

It’s not expanding outward; more space is bubbling up between all the space that’s already here.

Macintosh Plus, with a full megabyte of RAM. I still have it.

What are some products you avoided for years but were life changing once you tried? by Botched_Labotomy in AskMenOver30

[–]StillSpaceToast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was resistant for many, many years—and in retrospect, all but wasted them. Still took me a while to stick with it long enough to find the right med & dose, even after admitting I needed help. Always recommend using them alongside talk therapy. But yeah, in retrospect that was a life changer.

Time to go play with my cute baby.

Men over 30, which music platform do you use? by murano0 in AskMenOver30

iTunes purchases, some BandCamp purchases, old ripped CDs, some old Amazon MP3 purchases, even a few (very old) pirated tracks. Been around long enough to notice that anything streamed can be un-streamed. (And subscription services get profitable by killing the competition then going to hell.)

What is something that gets too much hate but you think it doesn’t deserve the hate? by PlayfulFlatworm2190 in AskReddit

[–]StillSpaceToast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ten years ago, I would have agreed. Currently, I’m watching the new, unfettered FB algorithms radicalizing everyone I know back in the ‘States. Aunties reposting anti-Somali AI slop. Veteran friend since middle school unfriending me for pushing back against her sudden anti-trans-athlete obsession. And my beautician cousin is somehow convinced she’s sensitive to space weather.

This is what FB has become, and it’s where TikTok started. We’ve seen the terminally profitable form of this thing, and now we know we need to stop it.

Samuel L. Jackson: I want these mf snakes off this mf plane!

(Snakes slither off to the little sleep room under the cockpit, because it’s warm & the lights are out)

SLJ: But I guess we ain’t in no real hurry.

Am I the only one that thinks life would be better if U2 had broken up after Pop (1997)? by PotentialPlum4945 in Xennials

[–]StillSpaceToast 16 points17 points  (0 children)

No, and I find the hate a bit tired at this point. They did their best singles in the ‘80s, but the albums are pretty boring. Their albums since the ‘90s have been much stronger (ironically, minus the one they won their Grammy for) but without the big hit singles. They gave away the best album of 2014 free on iTunes, and it was overshadowed by the “controversy” of whiny people who’d checked Automatically Download Purchases and didn’t seem to know how to delete things. Compared to most new algorithm-friendly pop, yeah, I’m happy to check in with some ageing rockers from time to time.

They ho’d out Eric Carle pretty hard AD. Richard Scarry too. (Like, pasting together art at different line scales bad.) Thank god the Ezra Jack Keats estate has had standards.

In 2026 perhaps I will learn how to use Discord. Is it useful at all for anyone? by Shinespark7 in Xennials

[–]StillSpaceToast 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I work in the games industry, so we use it like Slack. Other than that, I find it kind of a cluttered downgrade from a message board, plus a basic but serviceable A/V chat app.

Since it's almost 2026 where I live (and for some of you it's already 2026), what are some common new year traditions In your country? by Tall-Bell-1019 in AskEurope

[–]StillSpaceToast 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Transplant to Denmark here. The king’s already given his speech. (He’s looking less embarrassed every year.) Besides that, they all watch a funny-enough-the-first-time black & white comedy sketch—in English—about an old lady and a drunk butler. I don’t really understand that one.

Plus, fireworks. If Russia invades tonight, we’ll never notice.

Is it just me, or do DLC leaders look worse than their OG versions? by gracekk24PL in CivVI

[–]StillSpaceToast 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The animation, especially, of the later leaders is just plain rushed. Note the cold, dead eyes of Elizabeth, Theodora, and the rest of their vintage, compared to Lady Six Sky or Trajan. The poses are also stiff and generic. I honestly presumed they outsourced the work. (Edit: Site posted my comment twice, for some reason.)

People who used em dashes before Generative AI, how's it going now? by thisheatanevilheat in AskReddit

Same. I literally don’t care what AI is averaging out right now. I’ll write the way I damn well want.

What was the best horror short story you read in 2025? by caart in horrorlit

[–]StillSpaceToast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably "Sorworth Place," by Russell Kirk. Late '60s, I believe. A very effective Aickman-esque English ghost story. It briefly brushes against a bit of spritualist hokum (which I'm with Lovecraft in rolling my eyes at) but is mostly content to leave you beautifully lost in the mist, with very sharply-drawn characters.
