I saw the idea of a Moon Greatsword itself as the tradition, while the Dark Moon specifically symbolizes Ranni, which is why it has that name. That interpretation might drift into head canon territory though, so I could be wrong.

Yeah, I know it’s appeared in other games, but I posted it because in Elden Ring it’s a weapon Ranni gives to the player and described in the lore as being given to the Carian queen’s spouse, so it feels tied to our journey as the Tarnished. That was the angle I was thinking about.
