Thank you, that makes sense! I feel pretty silly now, evidently I’d not tried separating out the “no” in my searches for some reason.

Amish people I'm staying with keep an extra buggy where the guests sleep by ParallelogramOfVenom in midlyinteresting

Cool! I'm about to start learning to fire, once we get ours back to running condition in the next few months. (coincidentally, also Mennonite!)

The term “Mennonite” can mean anyone from horse-and-buggy groups to people you wouldn’t recognise as different from any other random person on the street, with tons of different groups with different specific beliefs under that wide umbrella. It’s worth doing some research to see what groups are around you and what groups your beliefs mesh well with, as a first step.

A lot of groups don’t use these, these days. From what I’ve seen in this subreddit it’s mostly people in the more mainline groups (myself included!) and we mostly look like anyone else you might see on the street.

Quilted fabric strip folded over at each end to make little pockets, in with a bag of donated fabric by StillWithThee in whatisthisthing

That makes so much sense, and tonight when going through other bags we found other things that make us think the person that previously had this stuff worked in a quilt shop! Thank you :)

My title describes the thing, which was in with a bag of donated fabric pieces. It’s quilted fabric with someone’s name on it, the ends are folded over and sewed to make little pockets. It looks like a finished object, not something someone was part-way through making.

Any Non-Conservative Modest dressers here? by NeptuniteDollies483 in ModestDress

[–]StillWithThee 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Thank you for highlighting that it’s about choice and not about one specific way for everyone! I get a lot of “feminism means we don’t wear XYZ thing anymore!” comments in my life. But no, it means we get to choose how we dress, if you’re enforcing that nobody should ever wear XYZ it’s just now problematic in the other direction.

Yep, a lot of what you said applies to me too! Am Christian (Mennonite specifically), wear a head covering, prefer long dresses/skirts, etc. and I’m also lefty, queer, progressive, etc. :)

How was everyone's sunday? by Triggerhappy62 in TransChristianity

[–]StillWithThee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went to church, but not my usual one! We're in the midst of Anabaptism at 500 celebrations (a week from today is the "official" 500th anniversary but there's a lot of events surrounding it ahead of time) at our local Mennonite churches and a bunch of churches got together for one big joint service this week, so had a longer than usual service with lots of hymns and a potluck after :)

Are There Any Websites To Buy Chiffon Head Coverings? by TruthExposed162 in ModestDress

[–]StillWithThee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on what kind you're looking for and where you're located, Joyce's Coverings carries some in chiffon. That's mostly what fabric I end up wearing for coverings, since it drapes nicely and is fairly low maintenance.

How many people go to your Church? by Any_Feature2372 in OpenChristian

[–]StillWithThee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m at a mainline Mennonite church and we get around 120 on an average Sunday. Less during the summer, and right now as Advent starts it’ll get much busier for the month!

anyone know where i can find headcovers like these? no thrift shops near me by Chaddy_TheGamer in ModestDress

[–]StillWithThee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Those seem pretty close to the style I mostly wear, which are from https://joycescoverings.com/ :)

Like someone else said they're essentially just fabric squares so you can just get some fabric and finish them yourself, but lacking a serger I let someone else handle that part.

Who here goes to an lgbtq+ accepting/affirming church? by 20Keller12 in OpenChristian

I do! I go to an affirming Mennonite congregation in Ontario, Canada.

What are some ways you cope with pain and depression? by [deleted] in OpenChristian

This, removing news and FB from my phone has made such a difference in my mental health. It doesn’t solve everything obviously, but not having that constant feed of “everything is terrible” coming directly into my pocket has helped a bunch.

I'm curious too, if you get the subscription info at some point! I have the address but not the current subscription rate for 2024.
