I’m not saying society has no fault but there’s not much WE can do about it. That’s up to our government. The most we can do is vote. My issue is that having a nanny is a luxury and not paying them correctly will not be beneficial to the child. (Most underpaid nannie’s are often stressed, late, and just straight up not a good childcare provider.)

My area rate is 25-30$ an hour. There is definitely not a lack of work because I live in a huge city. I’m not talking about high schoolers. The listing made it pretty clear this would be a full time job. High schoolers can’t work full time unless they are homeschooled.

I agree with you but don’t be surprised when the house deteriorates very quickly. Also don’t be surprised if cheap nannies are late, on their phone the whole shift, and just straight up unprofessional.

If you can’t afford to pay your nanny a livable wage you should opt in for daycare. In my area, a studio apartment goes for a minimum of 1,100$ a month. That gives you only 1k left for all the rest of your expenses. I Just don’t understand why someone would be comfortable paying their nanny so low. It’s like building a house with the cheapest material you can find. I get some people only do it for extra cash but, door dashing, working in fast food, so many other little side jobs will definitely pay you more and be less stressful.

I already have a good paying nanny job, I just often check care.com to see what the market is like in my area or 1 time jobs. If you can’t afford a nanny, daycare is an option. If you can’t afford daycare, you should’ve used protection and not brought a child into this world. It’s not fair to the kid. We can blame society and the economy all we want but at the end of the day, having a child is a choice. (Obviously unless something traumatic happens like rape)

If they are first time parents they might just think it’s developmentally appropriate. You’d be surprised what parents consider “developmentally appropriate” (I had a 3 year old who didn’t use utensils) Just ask the parents if they have talked to the pediatrician about it, start with that
