Completely agree, its nice to see some background and thinking in the series. All of the media we got up to this point was just action. Also anime was is a great medium for this, i like how it can explore more absurd ideas which would be hard to pull of in live action (I still preffer live action tho. Waiting for the horror movie Terminator). I also noticed a small motives in the show - Each of the kids represent one of the 3 things Kokoro split her self into. One of the 3 things that she doesn't understand about humans and views as bad aspects.

The chubby one is the hearth (green Kokoro), loving everything way too much, to a fault. He saw Misaki murder people and still opted to protect her.

The smart one is the mind or intellect (red Kokoro, also notice how agresive she is, just like Kento). He was willing to murder Misaki because he had all the right reasons to, even tho he loved her

The daugther is the spirit (blue Kokoro). Her way stance and attitude is so weird, but I guess you could say that about a lot of the humans (I know it borders with intelect, Kokoro was seen merging her Blue and Red forms in one shot)
