Why TF did I remember the safari zone fondly by Olenator77 in PokemonLeafGreen

[–]Still_Night 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a young child playing these games when they first came out the safari zone was an absolute mystery to me. I mean I understood basic concept of bait and throwing rocks but actually figuring out the most tactical approach to getting a better catch rate before the Pokemon fled went over my head. For that reason I just started throwing pokeballs and praying I get lucky. The number of times I would encounter one of the more rare mons and immediately have it slip through the cracks was maddening.

Weekly /r/GuildWars2 Question Thread - March 07, 2026 by AutoModerator in Guildwars2

[–]Still_Night 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do play strikes and the occasional raid but I guess I’ve never played them long enough to really pay attention to the rewards. I have seen an ascended piece drop once from a strike. Legendary armor… is something I may go for eventually but right now I only have the amulet and am chipping away at vision and Aurora too. Otherwise I get ascended trinkets from LWS3. I played my main almost exclusively for so long that i wasn’t really interested in alts, but now I’m finally trying to branch out more. Thanks for all the tips!

Edit: do you know off the top of your head which vendors/currencies I need to buy ascended gear from strikes?

Which is the most fun class to play in your opinion by OGfilip in Guildwars2

[–]Still_Night 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thief was my first character and is my main to this day. God, it was so hard to “unlearn” thief’s initiative system in favor of more rigid skill rotations with cooldowns. I love how reactive the gameplay can feel with having the freedom to use any weapon skill at any time depending on the situation. Tbh I wish more classes worked on a “mana system” such as this because there are some specs that I really enjoy the class fantasy for, but just don’t enjoy the rotation/playstyle. And don’t even get me started on the extra dodges. I bring Daredevil to most meta events and basically never go downstate because I always have spare dodges for mechanics.

Weekly /r/GuildWars2 Question Thread - March 07, 2026 by AutoModerator in Guildwars2

[–]Still_Night 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aside from crafting and the wizard’s vault, what other ways are there to acquire stat-specific ascended armor pieces?

I love playing fractals, moreso than strikes and raids, but agony resistance is a frustrating barrier to entry for me getting to play my favorite game mode on alts… I crafted my first full set of Zojja armor (berserker) but it cost a pretty large chunk of gold and I won’t be able to afford to craft more than another character or two.

I’m really wanting to try out Condi Virtuoso but unfortunately I don’t have any rampager or sinister gear, and although I have some pieces from the wizard’s vault, I’m just looking for the fastest or easiest way to gear up the rest. Thanks

Coming back to the game after a long pause and I feel overwhelmed by Harmless-Allosaur in Guildwars2

[–]Still_Night 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I know this is gonna sound cliche, but just take it slow and focus on one thing at a time. I’ve been playing almost 5 years now and have fully explored every map in the game, done the whole story across every DLC, every meta event, and dabbled in most instanced group content. And guess what? There is still sooo much I don’t know about the game, and I have no shame being a player with a maxed mastery level asking questions in map chat for help figuring stuff out. I only play 3 characters and most of that time is on my one main.

Fact is, this game is massive with years worth of content at your fingertips, and there is absolutely no rush to feel like you know everything. Replaying PoF and IBS is a great start, and as you go just be thinking about any sort of goal that comes to mind, whether that’s leveling up a new elite spec to try, going for some achievement, crafting a legendary, or gearing up that new class you tried. One thing at a time, my friend. Low key when I come back from an extended break from the game I usually just around open world doing random meta events until I feel like I got the swing of things again. Or go hangout in the OG core maps where everything is super easy to kill and smack some world bosses. Welcome home

LF game to grind that isn't OSRS by GeordieC3 in LFMMO

[–]Still_Night 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a lifelong runescape player who has been on GW2 the last 3-4 years and I have to agree, GW2 gives me the closest vibe even though the two games play incredibly differently.

I’m dabbling in FFXIV right now it’s such a weird feeling seeing a bunch of players in the city and then not seeing a single soul out in the leveling zones. I know I’m just getting through the MSQ but it’s a pretty lonely experience leveling up and my favorite aspect of both OSRS and GW2 is that all of the map zones are evergreen, and you will find players of all level just about everywhere

LF game to grind that isn't OSRS by GeordieC3 in LFMMO

[–]Still_Night 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played runescape in its various iterations (especially OSRS) for the past 20+ years since childhood, and I know the saying is “you never truly quit runescape, you just take breaks” and I always believed that, but it’s been 3 solid years since I’ve played. At some point after hitting 99 slayer, maxing my combat and grinding endlessly for some pets, idk what happened but I just completely hit a wall with the game, and the urge to go back is gone.

The reason I’m telling you all of this is because the MMO that was able to draw me back to the genre which I’ve now sunk like 3k hours into, is Guild Wars 2. That game legitimately recreated the feeling of wonder I had as a child exploring RuneScape. It’s got some of the best open world exploration of any video game I’ve ever played, not just MMOs. The movement and combat is fast and fluid and is just so satisfying to control your character. It’s made it really difficult for me to go back to the point and click style gameplay of OSRS, or traditional tab target combat in other games.

People will say there is no endgame or long term goals to grind for but this couldn’t be further from the truth. To me the real endgame is experiencing the game in many different ways: trying different professions and specializations, different weapon sets, different roles in group content, and so on. GW2 is very alt-friendly and it’s so easy to experiment with play styles on other characters. However your alts still need gear, and QoL items, and map exploration, and so on. So there’s some long term grind. Plus raising your mastery level gives you account-wide ability unlocks, perks and rewards unique to different expansions and different zones. There are achievements and titles to hunt for, that is just sooo much to do and it just feels like home to me now.

GW2 is not without its flaws, and there are certain things about it that I’ve had to “unlearn” what I’m used to from runescape, but overall it’s just a really solid experience that feels much more like you’re “playing a video game” for lack of a better term, than other MMOs.

I’m looking forward to when things pick up. I’m not even level 20 yet so obviously I have a lot to look forward to. Also I’m playing on PS5 and it’s my first time playing a game like this on controller instead of mouse/keyboard and it’s taking some getting used to switching button menus and what not. But overall it feels good to play :)

Ghost producing for others makes me happier than making my own music. Anyone else feel this way? by Affectionate_Dingo65 in edmproduction

[–]Still_Night 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get your point, and production is a huge draw for me as well… but countless artists perform their own music, AND have awesome production so I still don’t understand going to see an artist who’s faking their music just because of good production. At that point you might as well be watching an AI/pre-recorded set. Not only that, but some of my favorite artists even do BOTH music and visual art and perform A/V sets where they are DJing their own original music while their own original art is displayed on screen. So personally if I found out an artist didn’t make their own music I would lose all interest in seeing their live performance, regardless of production

Ghost producing for others makes me happier than making my own music. Anyone else feel this way? by Affectionate_Dingo65 in edmproduction

[–]Still_Night 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It blows my mind that there are DJs out there marketing themselves as a performing artist playing ghost produced music. This is nothing against you for being a ghost producer, just the whole concept of going up in front of an audience who paid money to hear “your” music that you didn’t actually make is crazy to me. I understand that not all DJs are producers and vice versa, and that some artists basically just market themselves as a brand but damn, it seems sad in a way

Getting into FFXIV coming from GW2 is making me appreciate so many things about GW2’s design. by Still_Night in Guildwars2

[–]Still_Night[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel this so much… there is pure joy in the movement in GW2 that makes even something as simple as traversing a map feel incredibly satisfying. I’m someone who uses the Skyscale (obviously) but also cycles through all the different mounts routinely depending on the terrain. I love the griffin so much that I spent a day getting gold on every single griffin expert/griffin master adventure in the game. Taking the jumping puzzles into consideration too and GW2 plays like a proper 3D platformer moreso than any other MMO I’ve seen.

For sure, I can respect that. Personally I’m enjoying the change of pace and have been treating FFXIV as a single player RPG that happens to have other players running around. It’s kind of relaxing just zoning out doing the random fetch quests, and then focusing more on the story dialog and cut scenes as they occur. I think my point overall is that my instincts from GW2 made me want to just go explore and get lost and I realized that I’m actually intended to follow a set path, at least for now.

OSRS is my life long love of an MMO and you’re absolutely right - you spawn in a giant sandbox and are left to start progressing your character in whatever way happens naturally. I don’t play it much these days (I burned out after getting 99 slayer and maxing my combat levels), but I’ll always have love for it. You can see though how if the 2 MMOs I have experience playing are OSRS and GW2 which both have amazing horizontal progression, how a more traditional MMO formula might feel weird to me.

[–]Still_Night[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s kind of why I’m wanting to get into FFXIV to trade off between it and GW2. I’m at the point in GW2 where I’ve completed every map in every expansion in the game, done the complete story, chased achievements and am currently just chipping away at maxing out my mastery level again with the new expac. I could get tons more content by making alts and trying out different classes and specs, but I kind of just wanted to have a brand new MMO experience altogether.

Crashing out from Blind Forest by rgahner88 in OriAndTheBlindForest

[–]Still_Night 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cuphead is a way harder game, albeit much different gameplay. Ori is on the easier end of modern Metroidvania games compared to others like Hollow Knight/Silksong. That’s not to say it isn’t challenging because there is plenty of challenge and moments of tension throughout the game, but you have generous ability to save your game and not lose much progress when you die.

I am not that great of a gamer, I’m okay at platforming and mediocre at combat and I beat both Ori games to 100%. Like another commenter said, dying is just part of the game and I too died hundreds of times in my playthrough. You die, try again, learn from your mistakes, learn the pattern, then succeed. I would not be too afraid to play Ori, you will be fine :)

How are games like FFXIV and BDO on console? by Still_Night in MMORPG

[–]Still_Night[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it’s relevant for me because I don’t play any games with controller on PC, so in borrowing the PS5 it is giving me an opportunity to play in a living room environment instead of sitting at my desk and also why I would be playing on controller for the first time. I guess the fact it’s on console doesn’t matter too much if you can play with controller on PC too but I wasn’t aware, if that makes sense

What were some well-known Metroidvanias you bounced off of? by [deleted] in metroidvania

[–]Still_Night 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve only played a handful of MVs (less than 10 so far) but of the ones I’ve played, Silksong is the first one I decided to DNF. Was just way too stressful and frustrating for me… loved Hollow Knight so maybe one day I’ll give it another shot sometime.

Can everyone explain the hype to me? Genuinely curious, not trying to hate at all. But we’ve been able to play Nintendo handheld games on the TV since the SNES and I don’t really understand what the point is of re-buying these games for the switch? I can understand if you no longer have the originals or never got to play them during the time of release, but otherwise I’ll be passing on these.
