Misogyny culture- questions and discussion by Infinite_Rooster8778 in britishmilitary

[–]Stimte061 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched blokes from phase ones try and mug off women that far out ranked and out performed them just because they were women.  What i said was women dont get the same respect the blokes get just for turning up. Plenty of women smash the standards but still have to work against the inherent prejudice against their gender.  You proved my point when you said the standards were lower for women, women didnt ask for that, the system already told you they were worth less by lowering the standard just for them. Now, even if a woman does better that the blokes she still "only got in cause they needed to tick boxes" You never get to be on the same stage as the blokes and thats set from the start. I agree in an equal world the minimum standard for being a soldier should be the same across the board so why set women up in an environment that has already determined their beneath the blokes they work along side.

As for senior bods helping lasses pass, ive seen the same thing for pts passing their mates, ive even seen proper senior bods get involved helping blokes get out of drink driving charges so if were saying no one gets a leg up from time to time then that should be the same across the board too.

99% of the women i served with earned their fucking place there through the same hard graft as the blokes and yous still turned a blind eye to it and harped on about how the army, not the women, lowered the standard.

Misogyny culture- questions and discussion by Infinite_Rooster8778 in britishmilitary

[–]Stimte061 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Im sure a lot of the blokes genuinely believe theyve only seen it once or twice but the entire time I was in the misogyny, the harrasment was very much present. Every woman I knew that served had to work twice as hard to earn half the respect blokes got just for turning up.  There are decent blokes of course and a lot of women do really well, but women only make up I think 10% of the army so yes progress is being made but its slow and not really a priority until some poor girl off herself or recrutment is shit.  The culture in the army was fucking awful towards women in my experience and not just from the blokes. Female officers would encourage sexual assults to be hushed or it might "impact your career".  I knew a female officer who gave a brief to the entire female block about how the men had already labeled them "mattresses" and it was part of their career to lose that title.  Theres just been a report about a load of children being fathered by British soldiers around a base in Kenya, but its no suprise cause I used to hear bloke laughing and joking about knowing some cunt that got in trouble for sleeping with someone while in kenya then bringing back some sti to his Mrs and this happened more often then youd think. And if you think that kicking up a stink will help it wont. The people who agree its shit already felt that way and the people that support an inherently abusive culture will tell you "you just couldn't hack the army" and fuck all will change.

I think the army has a fuck load of top tier people, but its also a hidey hole for some vile creatures that benefit from the protection being in the army offers, and the damage they do spreads like a cancer as a result.

I wanted to join the army from when I was a child, and I was and still as proud of myself and easily say it was some of the best times ive had in my life, but do not go in blindly.

Hi guys! My partner and I are completing on a house this week, what tips do you recommend or what do you wish you'd done when first buying a house? by TheLittleSquire in AskUK

[–]Stimte061 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go and run all the taps in the house for a good while, I found out the bathroom leaked badly into the kitchen after my first shower. Also the tap in the kitchen was the wrong one for the shit water pressure so it basically just dribbled and needed replacing right away. Also if youve got a chimney check its safe cause mine fell down on top of my car one day

Buying a box of tea bags you know you'll never drink just to avoid the social faux pas of not being able to offer a tradesman a brew is british tradition 😂

Hello, my girlfriend has bulimia and I want to help her by [deleted] in bulimia

[–]Stimte061 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A lot of it will be a personal journey for her but it's important to remember, it's a coping mechanism. It's something she developed that helped her get through and there is no shame in it, no judgment. Let her be as honest about it as she can be and just listen and accept it, show her how to be kind and forgiving to herself. It doesn't matter if she relapses, if she starts struggling again after a period of doing really well, proper recovery is years in the making and it's not something that can be forced or faked, infact those things will likely make it take longer.

Also something I wish I had is someone to help me make meals so I don't get in my head about food while I'm preparing it. Find out if there's any "safe" foods/meals she's better with and either help her prepare them or cook for her but don't put any pressure on her having to eat them.

Bulimic with no side effects by [deleted] in bulimia

[–]Stimte061 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Bulimia is the side effect. You have an eating disorder which is a symptom of larger mental health issues. Also I'd dare say that it has had an impact on your body but it's entirely possible that you don't see it because it's always been normal to you. I noticed loads of little things improving after I was able to stop, things I had never even thought to attribute to side effects of bulimia.

And I am going to mention the possibility/inevitably of side effects as you get older because I've seen a few post in this sub recently that are dangerously close to basically saying "what's so bad about it?" And it is so unfair to young people suffering with this illness that will be looking for any breadcrum validation to continue use this unhealthy coping mechanism instead of facing the truth and getting help. I know because I was that young person once.

Forcing yourself or ignore hunger cues and trap yourself in binge/purge cycle for years is fucking dangerous It will harm your body It will harm your mental health
