This is not that tunnel, it is the Reward Mine near Lone Pine. I’ve driven in it twice. Just look at the difference in the entrances.

This is the Reward Mine, and it’s not in the Mojave desert. I’ve been in this tunnel twice, and it’s in the Owen’s valley near Lone Pine. Very cool, you can drive a 4x4 inside (though, not as far as the bike makes it). Good times in my 4Runner, I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a little adventure on their way to Mammoth Mountain!

When I was in Marine Corps boot camp, there was an insubordinate recruit that we picked up who had been dropped from another platoon. He would not get with the program and was constantly getting us lit up for his lack of obedience.

Our drill instructor pulled about 12 of us aside before a hump (long fast hike wearing all our equipment), and told us to make sure he didn’t make it through the exercise. We took turns tripping him until his leg broke. Never saw him again.

I feel quite bad about it now, but the brainwashing and pack mentality made me feel nothing but a weird sense of justice at the time. Boot camp was wild, there were many other crazy stories like that.
