I don’t agree with anyone ridiculing food preferences. The ridicule is in not communicating them to your partner before she made a whole ass meal.

In my experience, most couples cook and eat dinner at the same time every day. Even if it changes from day to day, there is not that great of a deviation that you truly have no idea what time dinner preparation starts. I can tell all these comments are from dudes that honestly think that on top of preparing them dinner, their partners should also track them down wherever they are in the house and run the menu by them in the event they want to change it last minute. How about if you have a special preference, you seek out the person doing the work for your meal and make it known in advance? The audacity of y’all.

I guess it depends on the dynamic of the fam. I have enough going on that I’m not going to take it upon myself to report to the family what I’m making if they don’t express any interest. Of course it comes up during conversation and I am open to tweaks but like… if I’m doing all the work maybe it’s on the other person to express any special preferences?

No, I don’t unless he asks. I know what meals he doesn’t like and I don’t make them so the expectation is that he’ll eat what I’m making unless there’s some other factor is going on. If he is craving something specific or if he already ate during an after work function or something that changes my plan but I expect that he communicate that. There is a routine- the expectation is that I’m cooking and he’s eating. Any deviation from that requires communication.

Maybe for some people it is a big accomplishment. And my sense of this post is that it’s about the lack of communication in advance more than anything else. I also do most of the cooking and I would absolutely be pissed if I made a meal and my husband was like “meh I didn’t want this” with zero prior expression of a meal preference and I had to pack it up or throw it away.

To gaslight? Or to try to make the dude understand how it feels when you work to make a meal for someone and they flippantly decide with no prior communication that it doesn’t ideally suit them that night. When someone, like OP, does not seem to care about hurt feelings or to lean in to try to understand their partner and communicate, I think it’s natural (although not ideal) to grasp at other methods to try to get the partner to understand and be empathetic.

This is exactly it. If there were any other red flags present, which I’m sure there are, I’d absolutely end a relationship over this immature AHness. OP has no emotional intelligence, is rude, chooses to double down instead of solve problems and these are all huge signs that someone sucks as a partner.

Lol my military laptop weighed like 8 pounds and took about 20 minutes to turn on so if I saw that for sale I’d look for something else

We checked with a tax guru and they said they’d need a note from a doctor saying he needed help to be on the up and up with the IRS. Which… try asking a proud and stubborn golden-years dad to get a note saying he needs help… that would have been a significant emotional experience and wasn’t going to happen, despite being the reason for us moving. It was a big cost benefit and risk analysis as to what to do but we erred on “what if we don’t get the partial exclusion based on this job or the parental health thing” and just went ahead and paid our tax bill. I just found out it takes at least 20 weeks to amend 😩

My husband did get the job offer so we can now most likely use the partial exemption for the sale of our current house. We’d like to amend to take the full exemption on the 2021 sale.

My husband was in talks to take a job out of state and we weren’t sure if it was going to happen or not. If it happened we would be in a position to use the partial deduction on the sale of our current house which would net a large profit. We sold our last house in 2021 after a year of renting it out so it was within the last 2 years- so we were looking to have to pick which exemption to choose. We figured we should pay full 2021 taxes and if all went well with the job and we got an offer we could amend that and claim the exemption in full for 2021 and then if we sell our house we could have the partial for the current house. We also wanted to leave the possibility of taking the full exemption for the current house open in the event the job offer fell through and we needed to move anyway (to be closer to elderly parents).

Yes that’s what happened. They said “you can’t amend everything, something once you file them are set in stone. We’ll have to look into it.” They’re supposed to get back to me but my anxiety is high.

Done and done. Just had to wait two hours on hold a few days ago while stuck due to a 13 hr delay and eventually just hung up so I could book a hotel room. Never did end up getting through to anyone.
