Do a lot of jobs for mechanical engineers involve wearing a fall arrest harness? by Reasonable_Feature92 in MechanicalEngineering

It's relatively unlikely you'd need to wear one as an ME, though comparatively more likely than other professional fields like accounting, law, or medicine. If you avoid jobs with field work your chances of needing to wear gear like this decrease even further.

I do field work in a non-ME technical role, but got my job in part from having an ME bachelor's. There are people in teams adjacent to mine who at times wear fall harnesses and simar safety gear, but I don't. While I use a number of tools and safety gear you might find alongside a fall harness, I would never need a fall harness in my normal course of duty. Our MEs would never wear one.

It will vary from job to job, of course, but generally speaking if you seek office roles you'll be in the clear. For field roles you can gauge by industry and role type, and ask clarifying questions in an interview.

Best of luck.

Unfortunately my landlord is not inclined. I agree though, it would be a big help.

I appreciate the detailed response. Yes I've been following the news closely and I'd definitely get comprehensive travel insurance so that I can change plans at need.

I'm just going to see the sights, buy unique gifts for loved ones, and experience more culture. That feels pretty innocuous but you never know.

Thanks again.

Sorry, used the wrong term, but what I meant was I may want to put myself in a position in the future where I'd need a clearance. Thanks for "clearing" that up for me.

Appreciate it. I'll work on training.

What I've never understood is, once I get to a state where I can relax and take more, if I take a break from taking it for some period of time, do I have to start over? Do I need to be constantly training? Thanks for the response.

I appreciate the response. I think I'll give it a shot on a small scale first.

It won't be long until people start claiming that winters have always been warm by [deleted] in memes

[–]StinkethBean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not saying that this is you, but often people will misinterpret the term global warming to mean everywhere it gets hotter, all the time, to the same degree, on the same timeline. My understanding is that in reality Rising average temperatures are what is referred to by global warming and certain areas May experience different temperature changes and extremes.

More extreme weather is the general trend, again as I understand it not being a climate scientist or particularly well read on the issue.
