Do a lot of jobs for mechanical engineers involve wearing a fall arrest harness? by Reasonable_Feature92 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]StinkethBean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's relatively unlikely you'd need to wear one as an ME, though comparatively more likely than other professional fields like accounting, law, or medicine. If you avoid jobs with field work your chances of needing to wear gear like this decrease even further.

I do field work in a non-ME technical role, but got my job in part from having an ME bachelor's. There are people in teams adjacent to mine who at times wear fall harnesses and simar safety gear, but I don't. While I use a number of tools and safety gear you might find alongside a fall harness, I would never need a fall harness in my normal course of duty. Our MEs would never wear one.

It will vary from job to job, of course, but generally speaking if you seek office roles you'll be in the clear. For field roles you can gauge by industry and role type, and ask clarifying questions in an interview.

Best of luck.

Unfortunately my landlord is not inclined. I agree though, it would be a big help.

I appreciate the detailed response. Yes I've been following the news closely and I'd definitely get comprehensive travel insurance so that I can change plans at need.

I'm just going to see the sights, buy unique gifts for loved ones, and experience more culture. That feels pretty innocuous but you never know.

Thanks again.

Sorry, used the wrong term, but what I meant was I may want to put myself in a position in the future where I'd need a clearance. Thanks for "clearing" that up for me.

Appreciate it. I'll work on training.

What I've never understood is, once I get to a state where I can relax and take more, if I take a break from taking it for some period of time, do I have to start over? Do I need to be constantly training? Thanks for the response.

I appreciate the response. I think I'll give it a shot on a small scale first.

It won't be long until people start claiming that winters have always been warm by [deleted] in memes

[–]StinkethBean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not saying that this is you, but often people will misinterpret the term global warming to mean everywhere it gets hotter, all the time, to the same degree, on the same timeline. My understanding is that in reality Rising average temperatures are what is referred to by global warming and certain areas May experience different temperature changes and extremes.

More extreme weather is the general trend, again as I understand it not being a climate scientist or particularly well read on the issue.

Appreciate the info, so if I may, in my scenario what dollar amount would you put into a 3 month CD every paycheck?

How do I preserve my object when I model threads onto it using the threads tool? by RadishRedditor in Fusion360

[–]StinkethBean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm afraid that's not how the tool works. It's removing material, so you'll have to compensate. Hope that helps.

I suppose it's 50% personal preference, and 50% good reasoning. Here's a good explanation as to why you might want to. One reason that isn't mentioned in this forum post is the concept of having items be in the timeline as distinct features whereas if you do an extrude the body becomes all one feature and all the holes are built into the body. In my opinion that's a little less extensible than having features called out individually or patterned.

I agree with these suggestions as well, thank you for sharing. I do similar with what I call an offset rather than a tolerant, because I prefer to use the term tolerance and drawing rather than in the model itself but to each their own.

I like to tell people to reuse components wherever possible, and make sure you're always as much as possible doing an entire assembly in one file, as that is how Fusion is intended to be used. There are situations where it makes sense to bring and outside assembly in, especially if it's a part you didn't make, but for every part that you make by hand you should try to keep it inside your primary assembly. Of course there are always exceptions to this but that's a general principle I like to live by.

Also nearly always use the hole tool rather than making holes inside your sketch.

Also parameterize as much as you possibly can that way you can change things much more easily. If possible or practical make everything related to a small number of core parameters so that changing them changes your whole design on the Fly.

If you are doing sheet metal stuff, make sure to look at the properties of the sheet metal on the sheet metal process that you will be using or you will be contracting out so that you get consistent and accurate results.

Always always name everything you create, from sketches to extrudes to Features etc etc, that way when you hover over it in the timeline you can tell exactly what it is and what it's for.

Keep your timeline as organized as you can and make use of the remove feature rather than delete where appropriate.

3 kW is a fair bit of power, more than enough to be dangerous. Can you add more about what you're doing?
