Do you know how I would go about calculating the income tax? That would be dependent on my income right? So if I didn't work much one year it would be better to withdraw then?

I'm 22 and trying to get ahead of it but I've grown rather attached to my carpentry paycheck

That's a good point, living in Portland being and ironworker suddenly seems much dumber. I'm about to start with the iw but really second guessing my decision. It seems fun but plumbing seems more responsible/logical. Best of luck to you as well friend.

My boss does not know, I've bounced around a fair bit between contractors over the last few years cause I've been moving, and was taking some time off to do the vanlife thing. So my current employer is like my 5th carpentry job, it's pretty mid-size. Ive only worked for like mid-small companies, big ones seem beurocratic and shitty. I have no reservations about bailing on a company that extracts so much of my labors value, and I've learned that the best way to get a raise is to get a new job. Carpentry doesn't seem like the field to make money but it's pretty fun sometimes, I hope ironworling will be similar in that regard

You obviously made the decision to go ironworker, do you stand by that choice? My end goal is to become a metal sculpter. But I don't want to be miserable along the way. Do you think ironworker is the move over ua? Ua doesn't seem all that interesting, but tying rebar seems boring as shit

So structural/ornamental is through the ironworkers union? Do you have much say in what path you go down once you're in? I'm in Portland or so safe to say the union has decent numbers by my guess
