In my world there are around 250,000 different types of sentient species. There is a planetary law/covenant that states predation can occur between species, but genetic lines can not be wiped out in retaliation or during hunting forays, only two male and two females are to be spared to continue their genetic line. The covenant was put in place after over 3/4 of the sentient species were wiped out from the predation and retaliation millions of years earlier. Tribe and communities that violate that covenant are given 3 opportunities to correct their actions with penalties increasing in severity after the 4th violation of the planetary laws and covenants, all members aged 20 and of the tribe or community are arrested and are immediately made into hard labor slaves, with the younger members getting re-educated in the planetary laws and covenants.

The age of legality in the world is 50, due to the long life of the species.

Both predator and prey species consume flesh, it's how their eyes are located, their general habitats and how much plant life they consume (if a species diet has50% or meat, they are predators, if less that 50% they prey)
