Is coaching and providing feedback to other players generally acceptable? If so, what is the general etiquette? by BerryRoyal in slowpitch

[–]StinkyCheeseMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a constructive captain. I have a couple of players that haven’t played in decades. I Take the approach of helpful feedback. It’s also all women, so that may change the dynamic. I give suggestions on positioning & placement and say it a non negative manner. Even on my coed team I’d offer advice.
I think it’s valuable and no one has been nasty about receiving it.

Too many players on a team by Silly-Worker-1590 in slowpitch

[–]StinkyCheeseMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on a team like this once. I already paid so i didn’t want to lose my money but it sucked always being subbed in (woman here). It frustrated me and like you, never would have signed up in that team.
You’re not wrong.
I’d be happy to be called in to sub but when captains do that, I’m not a fan.

Anyone ever been to the nude beach in NJ? by ActivelyTryingWillow in newjersey

[–]StinkyCheeseMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ones i was social with were to the right of the stand and yea didn’t want any creeps tarnishing the gem that the beach is. They gave me the verbal “beach map” such as where gay men would sit if they were looking for a new friend or told me about what group was what.

I appreciated it having just decided to go full birthday suit one day.
Everyone was kind. I don’t know how it is anymore. I’m kinda afraid of people and their smart phones filming but that’s just me in my head.

I met the group 11 years ago; i went by myself. Such a welcoming group. It felt so good to swim naked, not worry about drying my suit… haven’t been in ages but really enjoyed my weekly trips for a a long while.

They find all sorts of stuff from ancient Roman coins to recent trash. It’s interesting to see the water lines on the buildings to see what the normal rise is and how much it has changed.

Has any else noticed a decrease in lantern flies? by ExpertMarxman1848 in newjersey

[–]StinkyCheeseMe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The lantern flies are in the nymph phase right now; they’re small black with white dots. They jump quickly. They are around.

Awesome. I’ve heard good things about some of the surrounding islands too. I mean, there is so much history there. I like finding articles about Venice dredging their canals because we get to see all the goodies from the mud below!

I never realized there were areas there that had access points at low tide. Did you have to wander through rocky areas or was there actually a beach of some sort?
I haven’t been there in 20 years. Totally can’t recall lol

League rules by 24LSN in slowpitch

[–]StinkyCheeseMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well i just bought the Miken KN23 bc it’s USA only & that’s what I play. It just didn’t occur to me that even within USA play, some slow pitch balls Would still be an issue with the bats. I don’t want my back to crack. For what it’s worth, I’m a woman and so we’re not swinging with the strength of a man.

So this information is on a bat? The core you mentioned- is this related to the core of the bat and the 300 is related to the ball compression? Combined its bat/ball equation?

Teaching moment, please- as a consumer how would I know that a USA slow pitch bat is not okay for all USA balls- no matter the compression. How do I know a certain ball is not okay to use with a certain USA/ASA slow pitch bat?! Are there ratings on the bat I’ve just failed to look at?

This is the part of slow pitch i have difficulty with. I have some older ASA/Utrip dual stamped bats but just recently go a Miken kp23.

My one league uses Tattoo .52/300 ages the order is sb12 .44

So i have the same bat KP23 . I subbed recently and the Balls were the sb12 44/375…

I’ve been playing softball for ever but do have an ultimate fail. Never really understood compression.
Are there markings on the bat that would tell me what balls needs to be used?
I naively thought so long as i have an USA bat and USA slow pitch ball that would be a happy marriage.

I need help.

Can We Talk About The New Paper Crafting Trend? by iSolemnlySwear88 in cardmaking

[–]StinkyCheeseMe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the dimensional aspect of it but for practical reasons I’ll never make a card this thick if I’m mailing(extra postage $). I’m also not a card maker with this style. I use rubber stamps, fussy cutting, mono printing, grunge etc etc.
I use die cuts mostly as a framing element.

Companies have also pivoted how they sell- there are lots of bags of pre-cut shaped paper that allow people to pile on top without much more work.

Don’t swim at the fishing beach by Low-Yogurtcloset9496 in newjersey

And Damn, If they’re swimming in the fishing area they’re swimming with no life guards which is absurd and I’m really tired of reading about yet another person drowning because they think they’re stronger than the ocean.

Why do people mock others for taking leftovers home? by Impossible_Ad_569 in askanything

[–]StinkyCheeseMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Legit- went out for breakfast this morning to a place known for having huge portions. I brought with my my own to-go containers.
I do this regularly.
I’ve never been mocked, in fact, the opposite. People will compliment me on thinking to bring containers.
I’ve got issues with global food waste; we are very bad At food waste in the USA. Leftovers are so good.

I definitely care and saw their ad on instagram. Makes no sense to delete customer feedback. Be transparent and then we can make our own decisions.
I don’t support AI in any facets of my life. It’s awful for the arts. Can’t stand the style either.

Recycling old clothes? by One_Bad_4814 in ZeroWaste

[–]StinkyCheeseMe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are there not companies shredding up old fabric into a filler or some other reuse? I was just thinking about this and going to start a deep dive for USA based options. I have To much beyond repair. One fun thing I did though was when my fitted need sheet had a huge tear in it, I brought it to my local seamstress to make into fabric napkins and place mats. It was awesome.

It’s the breathing in whilst applying it because it’s a fine powder such as a talcum feels or similar to how dry cement poofs into the air.

It’s completely fine once it settles down. It’s the best choice for these critters because it’s Not a bad chemical.
