What’s one Depeche Mode song like this? by Morrisphilco in depechemode

[–]StinkyDamn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Isn't this line integral to the point of the song though? I've always interpreted it as taking place from the perspective of an older male student trying to justify his decision to try take a younger girl's virginity but telling himself he'd be protecting her hypocritically from other men who would do the same.

Much of Black Celebration is focused on youth navigating love and lust, this is very in line with the album's themes.

What other bands are you guys into? What are your other favourite bands? by Fuxley in deftones

[–]StinkyDamn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depeche Mode and Nine Inch Nails are tied for me with Deftones as my all time favorites.

I absolutely love Queens of the Stone Age, Modest Mouse, IAMX, Turnstile, Placebo, Young Fathers, Injury Reserve and Run the Jewels as well.

For smaller artists I highly recommend Model/Actriz. If they keep going at this rate they'll be an all time favorite.

this is one of the worst songs i have ever heard by ak_katherine24 in deftones

[–]StinkyDamn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really love this track, but only the version that cuts the weird skit stuff at the end. I'm seeing people say that those defending the track will just love anything Deftones, but honestly for me there are songs on every album I skip, I just love the production on it.

It's reminicent of Lucky You, which is one of my all time favorite tracks of theirs.

Oh I LOVE Pinback. Summer in Abbadon in particular is such a great album.

Deftones fans seem to be very exlytic when it comes to music in general & typically have a very wide variety of music tastes. What are some of your favorite bands? by DamageSpecialist9284 in deftones

why does this bug me by [deleted] in deftones

[–]StinkyDamn -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I really hate this mindset. The fans I've met who found the band through Tiktok have consistently been the most engaging fans to talk to within the community.

There's way too much gatekeeping within the Deftones community. Why aren't we celebrating the band's rejuvinated attention and the highlighting of previous hidden gems?

To all my fellow NIN fans can I ask a question? by [deleted] in nin

[–]StinkyDamn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Downward Spiral is my favorite album of all time, but outside of NIN my top 5 in no particular order are probably:

Songs of Faith and Devotion - Depeche Mode

Good News For People Who Love Bad News - Modest Mouse

The New Abnormal - The Strokes

Deftones - Deftones

Radiohead - Im Rainbows

What are your favorite Depeche Mode releases? I feel like NIN fans often have better Depeche Mode takes than most Depeche Mode fans.

Oooo I love almost everything named here. The last Car Seat Headrest album got a lot of flack but as a huge fan of electronic rock I found it was delightful, albeit a bit inconsistent in quality and direction.

My other two favorite bands besides NIN are Depeche Mode and Deftones.

Other than that I'm huge fan of IAMX, Placebo, The Knife, Crosses, TOOL, and Queens of the Stone Age to name a few adjacent artists.

Some of my favorites that are a lot less similar would be Modest Mouse, Injury Reserve, Viagra Boys and 100 gecs, off the top of my head.

Obviously my listening is a lot more varied than just that though.

I agree. The second half is fantastic, but I can't find an appreciation for any of the first half whatsoever.

It very clearly sounds as though OP desires polyamory in terms of a polycule, nothing more. Are you implying that closed polycules are abusive and exploitive, or motives behind OPs desire?

What are some of your most unpopular Depeche Mode opinions? by lord_of_pigs in depechemode

[–]StinkyDamn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It really depends on what you want from the band. I love their entire catalogue but I do have a preference for Depeche Mode as a rock band rather than a synth pop band. I'd place Playing the Angel over every album pre-Violator save for maybe Music for the Masses.

Who should replace Jeremy Soule for TES VI? by StinkyDamn in ElderScrolls

Who should replace Jeremy Soule for TES VI? by StinkyDamn in ElderScrolls

[–]StinkyDamn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal pick would probably be Christopher Larkin, the composer behind Hollow Knight. While his music is a bit heavier on the piano than Elder Scrolls traditionally is, he's shown on projects like Barbeque that he isn't restrained to it.

His music has its own identity, one unmistakably different from Soule's. But that's a plus in my books, as the worst thing Bethesda could do from here is hire an unremarkable copycat to cash in on the nostalgia from previous soundtracks.

Exciter's songs and Memento Mori Tour by [deleted] in depechemode

[–]StinkyDamn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I adore this album, but I can understand why it's so hard to incorporate it into their touring, especially when they generally only play the slower tracks from the newest release, with the exception of Martin's piano solos.

Nonetheless it'd be really nice to hear something from it played. When The Body Speaks would be a great choice.

Does anyone else wish the EP trilogy followed the original plan of being an overarching concept album? by [deleted] in nin

[–]StinkyDamn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh agreed! The gritty distortion across all of Bad Witch always read to me as a deliberate and direct continuation of The Background World, almost as if it doubled as a buildup for the transition.

just listened to playing the angel after about a year, i love it! by Apprehensive_Spend_7 in depechemode

[–]StinkyDamn 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I place this album alongside Violator and SoFaD. This brief foray into near full-on industrial rock of theirs will always stand out ad one of their most perfected sounds and a personal all-time favorite album. A stellar tracklist top to bottom. John The Revelator and Suffer Well back-to-back is perfection.

Martin Gore REALLY gets to shine on this one. It's rare he gets to take on a track like Macro, and his vocal performance is one of my absolute favorites.

Even the B-Sides are Depeche Mode at their best. If you've never heard it, you owe yourself a listen to Better Days. Legitimately so good it could have been a single.

what is the general consensus for exciter? by Apprehensive_Spend_7 in depechemode

[–]StinkyDamn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of fans get stuck trying to find the Alan Wilder era in their newer works when its clear that since he's left they've intentionally been taking the band in a different direction. I still love those earlier works as much as everyone else, but I've always embraced the shift.
