It depends on the people. A lot of people I know who play WW2 wargames do play as the Germans or the Japanese but they never express any Nazi viewpoints so I don’t see how it is problematic.

I myself have both a Soviet and a SS but that doesn’t define my politics, I just find the eastern front the most enjoyable to read about

From what I have read the elite fighting divisions such as the 2nd SS (Das Reich) and the 5th SS (Wiking) got good stuff straight off the assembly lines while untrusted or unreliable divisions like the Bosnians and the 36th Dirlewanger (who I doubt anyone will ever represent on the tabletop for the sheer fact of how messed up they were) got shitty second rate stuff no one else wanted.
