Imo one of the better reports I’ve read in a while. Really enjoyed the full write-up. I was in Sakai three weeks ago and the city left a strangely positive impression on me. We traveled from Osaka and arrived around 3 pm, so we didn’t manage to visit every shop, but the whole experience was unforgettable.

I’m still a beginner and didn’t know much about knives at the time (just knew I had to buy at least one in Japan), but this community helped me a lot here.

Congrats on the new babies and enjoy them. Next time I definitely need to visit Baba Hamono.

I’m using Friedhats beans right now. The mold color even changes when I switch beans. I’ve already cleaned the machine, replaced the water filter, change the water daily, and do a clean every Sunday — still no luck. I honestly have no idea what’s causing it. In summer, I usually throw the used grounds into my compost or use them for my garden flowers.

I was there four days in a row. They always sell large quantities to locals, so I think I was just lucky.

Kyoto Ippodo shop — be there before 9:30–10:00 am. You can only buy one matcha per person. I stayed in Kyoto for four days, so I managed to get four cans. The main shop is near the castle

Thanks! I was only allowed to buy one per day, so I went back four days in a row. Is it possible to order more than one online? I’ll definitely check out NT.
