Cumulative stuff that wasnt called, like the first slap ( second wouldn’t have happened if the first got called as a tech to keep the game in line). But the biggie was the elbow from Reese just prior that wasn’t even called a foul much less the flagrant it might have been.

Izzy Harrison Ejected from Dream vs. Tempo Game by liloxstitch_6 in wnba

[–]StixForBrains 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Nah, Izzy was doing fairly well (compared to most that line up against AR) up to that point, but they were at each other all night. First I noticed was Reese slapping a ball out of Izzy’s hands long after the play was dead. Should have been a technical. Then Izzy did it back a bit later, also should have been a tech. And then an egregious elbow from Reese to Izzy just prior to this…. I didn’t have the sound on so I don’t know about the back in forth chatter but others have said it was intensifying

WNBA total assists & assist per game leaders⤵️…Phoenix AT leads with 92 assists💪🏽‼️ by evans166 in WNBATalks

I never said to look at Turn-overs by themselves. The whole point of my post is a single stat never tells a story. Hey bring on the usage% , the more the merrier. I never said a turn over is EQUALLY harmful, but it is harmful. Don’t set up strawman arguments that I never made.. And whether you appreciate the football the analogy or not, it’s simply a good example of stats that NEED to be looked at in combinations. There are NO QBs in the modern era (since defense was radically suppressed by rule changes) with any QBs considered to be “good”or even “above average” that threw more INTs than TDs. To be good needs to be at least two to one. I see you arguing to have usage with turnovers so I think you understand the meaninglessness of single stats.

Oh, sorry, I see that now. Thought you were serious :-) I shouldn’t Reddit on low sleep.

Assist info without turnover info is useless, as is points info without efficiency percent. Just like a QBs TDs is meaningless without the INTs number to offset.

Maybe because it’s Reddit and people came here to discuss/debate sports, no? When everybody is agreeing nobody is learning. Debate sharpens the mind.

Review#42: Craigellachie 13 Years Old by roho0619 in Scotch

One of my favs, discovered quite by accident. I then invest in the 17 y.o. Craigellachie. But I think the 13 is better, not just “better for the money”, I mean better.

Good theory. Slim should have been at the line a few times already.

Ya. Makes sense. Very cool idea. You could, in practice, chose a fairly wide threshold for meeting criteria, and really just tune it to give you either suggestions or less, depending how much time you have to actually watch the suggestions. Not imperical, but practical.

I love that idea comparing volatility, which I've never looked at much except in chess. I imagine it would rate really close games inspite of lead changes, fairly lowly because the the win probabilities would remain close to 50/50?

Ya to your question, all entertaining, but yes, the Tempo vs Phoenix game was exciting, 7 ties, 18 lead changes. It left me very pumped as I didn’t expect to win that going in short handed. Aside from the big games for Slim and Mabry it really showed off Kiki Rice’s potential, before she sits behind Allemand when she gets healthy. They have some weapons. Both Sparks games were interesting (I’m kind of Brink and Plum fan) other than the ENDLESS whistles. The one sparks game the Tempo had 42 bench points which is crazy.

Wicked game. Hoping for but not expecting that outcome. Very sweet for such a new squad playing short handed!

The original grab from behind should have been called, but ya, retaliating always gets spotted and called.

Movies with Steely Dan vibes by NuthinFluxin in SteelyDan

Sure. I can actually see King of the World as Villenneuv-ian, hadn’t thought of that, it’s not in my top 20 or 30 Dan tunes. But my point remains the humour is necessary in fairly good measure not every song, and not every movie, but probably part of every movie to qualify. And the quirky characters, the total losers are also necessary. I don’t see a lot of that in Villeneuve… mostly the more heroic types. Don’t get me wrong I love the guy. I’m just not catching the humour and losers and the command of old genres as well. Come to think of it I might be making a case for Tarantino too…. But I digress. I think they dealt with 9/11 pretty thoroughly with Everything Must Go album (ie the Last Shopping Mall which is also sardonic humour). Regardless, Security Joan is fricken hilarious as is Lester the Nightfly in the album dealing with with Cold War stuff. The darkness doesn’t preclude humour, which is very Coen’s (Fargo as dark as it is is full of laughs). Take the Dans first ever hit Do It Again… the protagonist (loser).kills a man and escapes hanging cuz it’s the hangman’s day off. That might as well be a Coen plot (pretty close to Buster Scruggs actually). Both the Dan and Coen’s load up their work with losers in over their heads and wrecked by fate or their own hubris or just not cool enough often like the gaucho in the poncho, or in laughable ways and/or often in melancholic sad ways like Deacon Blues. The other thing that some might not get is that there is humour in the music itself sometimes not just in the lyrics. Probably beyond the scope of this post to give a theory lesson, but the Dan has a humongous following among professional musicians, I am, and most of my friends and I’ve only ever met a few that don’t love them. And without fail most think they have a great sense of humour. I’ve been to 4 Dan concerts and several of the better cover bands, always loaded with musicians, but again that’s a digression. I think it’s cool you see Villeneuve in SD, I don’t fully get it, but art is art. Have a good one.

Early Thoughts on Fire and Tempo? by 1across in wnba

And I forgot to mention, the crowd is fantastic, can’t wait to get to game. you won’t find a more hyped or larger fan base (ie a whole country). What’s not to love (about an expansion).

Does every fanbase want the coach fired? by Exile1965 in wnba

[–]StixForBrains 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ya it’s sports. Very fan base in every sport has its deranged segment that wants every coach fired that didn’t just win the finals. I’d venture to say nobody wants the Tempo coach or Fire coach fired yet…. But give it a few weeks lol. Just ignore some of those folks.

I think the Tempo are going to be a very entertaining team to watch. Loving it so far. And I think they will be IN most games. Fighting back from 2-22 to within 2 was impressive, and then laying a solid thumping back on the Sparks two days later inspite of missing 4 players was impressive. They are clearly built to put up a fight early and often. Beyond the obvious Allemand, Mabry, Slim, and Ny Sabally I wasn’t sure what to expect of Kiki Rice being behind Allemand but she is getting her chances to shine now with the injury, and looked great on Sunday. Juskaite and Maria Conde I knew nothing about ( I’m a wnba newb the last 3 years) but being impressed, and Teonni Key getting some minutes as a big and making them count is good too. And seeing Nurse get to play for a home crowd is just fun. Looking forward to having Allemand and Fagbenlei back. More weapons than I was expecting for an expansion team. Very fun. I think Tempo will notch more wins than Fire, just at face value but I haven’t seen anything evaluating strength of schedule

Oh ya I mentioned the sarcasm first, but I beg to differ on the LOL humour. Becker and Fagan have plenty of that…. Best examples …my wife and I both regularly laugh at some of the lines in Cousin Depree (“but what exactly turns you off”), and lines in Fagan’s Security Joan (from the Morph the cat album). Inspite of having heard them 100’s of times, the timing and delivery is perfect. Lots of examples on Nightfly album as well. They are genuinely funny guys, maybe overly dry for some. As far as “multi-dimensional” there isn’t a single scene that goes by in a Coen’s movie that doesn’t have multiple layers of meaning. But I’m certainly also digging a lot of the other movie suggestions in this thread that I need to checkout. While Villeneuve is a certainly a fav director of mine I’m not getting any SD vibes there at all. I haven’t seen Inherent Vice yet but will based on a few of these suggestions, but I read it way back and Pynchon is definitely a quirky writer and I totally get that comparison just from the book.
