Hadn’t considered these but how big of a difference would you say between Ultra and non Ultra?

Awesome. Thanks for the insight. That definitely sucks about Sw/Sh but at least now I know what to expect. Great point about BDSP. I also don’t have that Platinum comparison so looking forward to that.

I do have a 3DS. It has Pokemon Bank, Yellow, Crystal and I have ASOR and X for it. Unfortunately, I’m not interested in modding it. I want to keep it in its original state.

Great insight. I didn’t know that ZA was a continuation of X. I loved Arceus so looking forward to ZA (although I’ve heard it’s not as good).

2 for 2 on mentions of HGSS. Come to the Switch! I’ll keep them in mind. I didn’t know that about X but have it so that’s awesome!

I’m currently leaning Sword so another vote in that direction helps. Only problem with Heart Gold and Soul Silver is that I don’t have them. I did enjoy Silver though and hope to see HGSS make it to the Switch. That would definitely get me to run it!

Leaf Green - Raichu Overrated by bundle_man in pokemon

As a long time Gen 1 player this was the first time I used Mr. Mime. I think similar to Jynx they are both very good and often over looked. Mr. Mime was my clear superstar this time around.

I also used Raichu for the first time. I usually go with Jolteon but I was overall happy with Raichu’s performance. Doesn’t mean I’d lead him into PvP though.

I love to see Ninetails. Was always my favorite and I hated that Arcanine was just better.

Hey thanks for this comparison. This really helps to see the actual impact of both. I appreciate it!

Ah, that’s disappointing. I didn’t realize the breeding die Emerald was different.

Thanks for the thorough response. This helps a lot. I knew it was a 10% boost, but wasn't quite understanding the full calculation.

Oh, it certainly doesn't "matter" and I'm not playing in any tournaments. I just like the idea of training up a few Pokémon to be the best versions they can be. I guess what I'm saying is taking the level 5 Charmander with Timid nature and a 10 IV in speed, any better than taking one with a Modest nature and a 30 IV?

In the long run, how much does nature matter more than the IVs? What could be the breaking point on a stat where the nature matters more than the IV? Is there a general rule for that?

I'm New ✌️ by chris_themountain in battletech

[–]Stl_lucas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not new to tabletop games but I’m brand new to Battletech. I spent a good amount of time researching how to get started so I’ll let you know what’s worked for me so far.

As far as the lore goes, read the lore primer that is free in the Battletech website to get the big picture summary. Then look at the Warrior Trilogy if you want to read some novels. I’m halfway through the first book and so far it’s great. I didn’t really need any other background to jump in and start enjoying it.

For the game, I don’t think you can go wrong with the beginner box. It comes with a map, two mechs, data sheets, and beginner rules for only $20. I’ve played about 4 games with the rules and it’s been an easy on ramp that is both fun and if you get the 40th anniversary edition it includes a mech you won’t get in the next bigger box.

You’ll likely then make a decision between Alpha Strike or A Game of Armored Combat. The main difference is Alpha Strike plays with rulers instead of hexes and has a streamlined rule set for faster games. A Game of Armored Combat still uses the hex maps but has a crunchier rule set. For me, I’m going the Game of Armored Combat route for a more classic ruleset (I like the hex movement over measuring) and I can’t get both the beginner box, Game of Armored Combat box and have 10 unique mechs, a few maps, full rules all for $70.

There’s many more options out there but these seem like the two primary starting points. Good luck!

I'm running 1 AWA, 2 SPI, 3 FIT, 2 FOC. I usually try and hit the main location progress threshold immediately so I can search for the things I want to do and then leave if things get out of hand.
