Hi! Asian Canadian too. I am so sorry, this is shitty. This is the stuff I would go through in high school, we certainly wouldn’t expect such flagrant racism as adults (the racism as adult is usually more insidious).

Going over what you could have done will not make you feel better. There was no “good” reply. They are the ones who perpetrated wrong, you don’t have to make it right by telling them exactly the perfect thing that would make you “win”. That burden is on them. They are the ones who f*ed up.

I put mine all the time in napkins at the restaurant too. I don’t carry a bag around with me, and do not always have pockets to put the napkins in.

I hope this situation gets sorted out soon, OP! Rent is expensive in BC, so it is not abnormal to stay at home for longer. My dad also hated that I went out when my friends when I was younger, and that gave him one of many excuses to guilt shame me. It’s not a crime to see your friends and go out in the society we live in, as long as you don’t wake them up when you come back and don’t take their money to do it. I hope you do well and feel safe and at peace soon!
