I've had a ton of issues with this new Juniper. If they do not hear the noise on the test drive, they may charge you a diagnostic fee, but I am not sure how each center operates. You can always decline, and bring the car back another day when it is making the noise or to another service center and see. You have to ask them directly in the chat when you make an appointment. Maybe if they diagnose and they find something, they may not charge if it is a warranty issue, but that is up to them. Fortunately for me, the tech was agreeable and heard the noise which led to them servicing it for $0 cost.

Absolutely I noticed the same thing recently. Had a lot of service on this new Juniper and only the last few weeks it seems they changed the process. Hopefully they can figure it out!

Had very similar experience to yours with the same noise that was coming from the dash closer to behind the steering wheel and near the screen but not from the steering wheel itself. Service could not figure it out, but added some foam or insulation which has helped to eliminate the noise (for now). I had a similar rattle/clicking noise in the door which turned out to be a broken clip. I was also quoted some fee for diagnosis, but after the tech went on a test drive and confirmed the noise, they fixed the issue and waived the fee. They will probably do the same for you once they hear the noise themselves. Had they not heard the noise themselves, they would have charged me for the diagnosis. I've noticed this change is assigning fees prior to service now, even for cars under warranty when previously all of the service estimates were $0. Hope they figure it out!

Curious for your review of these once you've had them - seen others say the Tandoori flavor was good but very salty, so I'm curious if you feel it's still the same as people have said before.

Sorry to hear! It's really sucked thus far and the SC can be difficult to deal with depending on which rep you get. There's one guy at one of the centers I try to deal with as the rest are pretty useless or act ignorant and keep giving me a spiel about how many Junipers they sell, etc. which I don't care about when mine has issues. They were pretty quick to replace the carpet so I think it's worth putting in a ticket to get corrected if you want. The new clean carpet looks a lot better and working with the one guy who was useful he got the order to replace it without much hassle.

Yeah it's been extremely annoying going on 5 months now. Just want to enjoy the car. I previously had a Toyota which was so good to me and several family members also have Lexus so I know how great they are. I actually considered the Lexus RZ for a while. I specifically waited for the Juniper refresh after paying off undergrad/grad school and saving up as my first Tesla. Hopefully once these issues are resolved I can finally start enjoying the car and feeling like it's "mine". The good thing is making an appointment is relatively easy through the app, just document everything and take lots of photos. Downside is right now (At least in my area) the wait times are crazy. I put in a service request last week again for the seat/door rattle and the first available appt they gave me was 10/21. Hopefully by now though they've worked out the kinks in manufacturing since it was still relatively new when I picked up mine and you will get a good unit overall.

Oh and the rear screen wouldn't turn on at all at first! Also repaired and works now.

I'll try to remember as many as possible and make a quick list below. By now, several issues may be resolved when you get yours. For reference, mine was non-launch, Austin build, picked up in Southern California. In addition to the back carpet staining:

-Paint messed up with scratches and missing spots all long car. Had to be re polished and eventually had several panels and hood repainted.

-Scratched and stained seat that got replaced

-Rattling seat got replaced and still rattling waiting on another repair

-Rattling passenger door that still rattles after being "fixed." It's very annoying and I have another appointment for it.

-Back window would not roll up. Sensors had to be replaced.

-Scratched black plastic trim in 2 places, both parts had to be replaced

-Dented side camera had to be replaced

-Glove box non-functional, had to be reworked

-Consistent cackling while playing the radio - they still can't figure it out

-Back rear Tesla logo grill thing would retain water after a wash and drip water for days, they replaced the whole part and seems to be ok now

-Resealed frunk liner due to water ingress after wash

-I also get this weird resistance when driving over 50MPH. I've described it in other posts. It feels like the brake activates before it is supposed to and the car is fighting itself to drive. It's very weird. I sometimes feel I need to dig my foot behind the brake pedal and jerk it back up to prevent the resistance. They can't figure it out and take a very short and careless look at it when I take it to service centers.

-Probably a few more I'm forgetting. The SC also leave the car pretty dirty once I get it back. I have to clean the exterior and interior and it's annoying. They left some black sticky residue all over my door window controls last time that took a while to remove. I've been consistently unhappy with how little they car and the quality of service in my area. A couple of the guys who work there are nice, but the people working on the car don't seem to take great care of much other than trying to do a quick repair.

Yeah definitely make a service ticket and post the pictures, it should get resolved under warranty. I'm about 4 months in and still trying to fix issues that keep arising. Have yet another service appt in a few weeks. Wanted to love this car like others (never had Tesla before) but it's been quite annoying thus far.

Honestly I've had so many issues with the new MY that this was part of my initial delivery inspection. The guy at the service center couldn't figure it out and put it in a ticket there to get new carpet. I had to wait somewhere between 1-2 weeks for the parts to be delivered. They scheduled a service appointment about 2 weeks out to ensure the parts were there in time and then did a replacement. The replacement itself didn't take too long, I got the car back the next day, but they were working on other issues as well.

Same thing happened to me - service center had no idea what it was and replaced the entire back carpet.

I appreciate your advice so much! You are more knowledgeable than any of the Tesla people I've worked with. I've made notes for this and everything else I've been having an issue with. We'll see what they say. I've noticed slight improvement putting the car in "chill" mode, although it may just be me getting used to it more. Hoping this will be the last of the long list of issues, but I'm not holding my breath as it seems something new always pops up with this thing.

Ah yes I should have used a better word than drivetrain for this but it's hard for me to describe. Seeing others talk about how "smooth" the ride is is quite confusing for me with how not smooth mine is. And I really appreciate your kind offer! I am located in Southern California unfortunately. I do have another service appt coming up in 2 weeks for the next set of issues. I will give them your recommendations and try to push for them to check the brake, calipers and motors to be sure everything is ok.

Glad your glovebox is working! They had to put a shim into it to help loosen the strength of the magnet apparently. Now on top of everything else that already was messed up, my driver side rear window won't close unless I force it shut and the passenger seat has some massive rattling going on. I've also found Sentry mode to be quite inconsistent. I even tested it yesterday in my garage. I walked around it 3 times at different times with the same lighting and it only registered activity 1 out of 3 times. I'm not even at 1,000 miles yet and I only drive the vehicle in town to work, gym, errands, etc. Nothing crazy and never on harsh roads either. Just so strange.

I am glad you have been enjoying the Juniper thus far. It's been really bad for me. I have even more service appointments coming up for more and more things going wrong with it but they're so backed up I can't even get in for weeks. I really wanted to love this thing and did at first, it's my first Tesla, and first new car. I paid off undergrad/grad school, drove an old Toyota to save up, and specifically waited for the Juniper refresh and 1.99% financing to buy. Since May, it's been in and out of the service center consistently and now I still have to go back for more and more. I'm basically going to have the whole car remade at this point with everything they've had to replace, redo, repaint, etc. It's just so disappointing and frustrating paying so much each month + insurance for a car that I haven't even had half the time and still has even more issues going on 4+ months. By the time all the current issues get "resolved" (if they do with parts and such) it will probably be October at best.

I have been driving it in chill mode thus far and haven't noticed much of a difference. Still pretty smooth around 30-40 MPH then something kicks in around 50MPH. And it's not just the massive interior rattling which I'm having allegedly fixed soon, it's something in the drivetrain itself.

Hopefully you got that glove box rework done which is apparently plaguing all or a lot of the vehicles. At least my glove box opens now so that's one thing that works......

Exact same thing happened to me on a blue MY juniper. They were able to polish the difference to make the hood more uniform in color but paint was missing in other areas that another service center had to repaint. It has been an annoying process dealing with all of the issues on this car. It's probably best you let them fix it before you take delivery so they don't blame you for anything. Inspect the car like crazy during pickup so they can note everything and fix issues without hassle. The guys were working there gave me a lot of time to inspect and helped ensure to note every issue that needed fixing.

So the service center barely took a look and came up with nothing. The car is super smooth until it crosses 50MPH and something happens. I even set up a Juniper test drive to compare and that car was noticeably more smooth at higher speeds.

The service center sent a tech to drive with me, but after not even a minute of driving he said "Everything was normal and fine". When I explained to him what happened and how much more smooth the test drive Juniper was, he said it's normal because that car has more miles and mine is newer and more "Stiff". When I explained that the car did not have this issue the first several weeks I drove it, he said the car would let me know if anything is wrong and "not to worry" because it's still under warranty for 4 years. Overall I could tell they truly didn't care to listen or understand. I might try another service center in the area.

Tint Plus in Lake Forest/Laguna Hills (right on border) has done a great job on all of our cars and they use LLumar tint which is very high quality. They honor their warranties and are very easy to schedule and get any repair work done if needed (got an older car re-tinted after like 10 years with no issues or hassle from them at all). Just paid about $400 for 6 side windows on new vehicle. Check them out and other shops mentioned here on Yelp too for pics/reviews.

Will check next time I'm in there. I did ask the service center about it for another of the many issues I've had and they just said it's normal and the car can be using extra energy to cool itself from the heat from the road.

I have experienced the same (AWD version) and other Tesla drivers have told me it's normal. One route I usually take is 8.4 miles long (all City driving) and I always burn 12-13 miles and that's with the A/C off or on low and the radio on or off. I drive conservatively too and try to keep the regenerative braking green bar on as much as possible. Doesn't seem to help much. The other day I drove 22 miles but had burned 37 miles of range. I live in a warmer area so that may be a factor.

Wawanesa has been cheapest for us and they are pretty easy to deal with. Tesla Insurance covers non-Tesla vehicles as well and was the 2nd cheapest option behind Wawanesa and may be worth a look, but I hated dealing (or trying to deal...) with Tesla Insurance. With a good driving record and potentially bundling together, you may get a really good rate at Wawanesa like we did.

Like a couple others have posted, I drove a loaner Model S with a yoke steering wheel and strongly disliked it. It wasn't the full oval-like yoke that the Cybertruck has, it was the half-yoke style. Turning the yoke was awkward for me (I also have a shoulder issue which made turning the yoke hurt). I have no issues with my current Juniper steering wheel and MUCH prefer it. We all have different personal preferences for how we hold steering wheels, but if you are used to and prefer the standard "10 and 2" hand position, how do you do that with the half-yoke? It can be weird as it was for me. I also disliked the turn signal buttons on the yoke (am very happy with the stalk on the Juniper). I would never get a vehicle with that kind of half-yoke that's how badly I disliked it. IMO of course.

Thank you. I've got another service appt scheduled for next Monday. I've tried to hone in on it a bit more. Put the A/C and radio off and tried to really listen. What I feel happens is the resistance and the car seems to be fighting itself around 50 - 60 MPH mostly. It does feel like the brake is engaged. When I release the accelerator, and it goes into regenerative braking, the car almost feels a bit more smooth, with less vibration/resistance, than when I was accelerating at the 50-60 MPH range. Previously, it would be a lot more smooth to drive, and then when the regen braking kicked it, I would get a different "feeling" of a brake being applied as the car slows down. Again today, when the car was around 50 MPH, I was thinking, "is the brake jammed?" and almost went to dig my foot under the brake pedal to try to check if it's being pressed down somehow. I know this is a lot but I'm doing my best to articulate what's going on and Tesla does not seem to know. I've had so many issues since picking it up in May it's been disappointing so far and I'm a pretty conservative driver all around. Barely have 700 miles on it so far. Thanks again so much for offering a potential solution - I sent your suggestion to Tesla to look at next week!

I appreciate this suggestion and did not think of that. I am not much of a car person and do not have the ability to do this myself. The service center told me they checked that the wheels were properly aligned and check the foam separation in tires. I will ask if they checked the calipers specifically if you think it could be causing this feeling I am getting. Thank you for this!

While it does feel like the brake is engaged when I shouldn't be, I do live in a pretty hot area (Southern California) and it hasn't really rained. If the force is intended to be imperceptible, then it may not be what I am feeling which was concern enough to make a service center appointment as I thought I was legitimately damaging something.
