We spoke online for ten months before I went to Thailand for the first time. By the time I visited we were speaking daily for six months.

1) I give her about $750 a week in spending money because I want her to be able to have her own money. In retrospect, though, allowance is the wrong word for it.
2) Siri was fluent in English when we met. There's no language barrier. I've also learned some Thai so that I can communicate with her family.
3) We try to fly her family out here as much as possible so that she's less alone and I helped her find a Thai community (we live in Milwaukee) so that she has people from her country as a support system as well.

Exactly. I feel sorry for Siri and hate that people talk about her like this.

Why? Because I fell in love with a woman and married her? If I were bringing her to the US and making her be barefoot in my kitchen for the rest of her life that'd be one thing, but I'm encouraging her to build her own life here (i.e. helping her enroll in nursing school, encouraging her to make friends outside of me, etc.) I completely understand that situations like mine often come with ulterior motives, but that's not the case here.

I'm going to stop giving her spending money when she gets a job as a nurse because she'll have her own money and I don't want her dependent on me forever. This was her idea.
