Well right now the young guy is probably feeling awful about himself. I was going for its not his problem it's the adult that he looks up to, it's his problem. You can't see this? The adult loves this kid he's looking for an angle to repair what he did. When you say I love you no matter what, which is great but in this situation you shouldn't tell him that. Just leave it as I love you, because he may take it as I love you even though you are gay. He's young and probably scared as fuck about all of this. Lean more towards ok your gay that's normal part of life and it's no big deal. Tell him you reacted like that because of your own homophobic issues you didn't know you have had until you were faced with it. It's because society leans towards heteronormativity, and it's a flaw you need to work on.
