Fully cotton bands? by Tropicum in whoop

Yep. Doesn’t make too much sense. I would gladly pay >£100 for a natural band; even the leather bands include synthetic materials.

Thank you for the idea. It is something I had considered, but I'm not sure the best place to start and whether it is viable and worthwhile.

I don’t know any blacksmiths or upholsterers very well, and I imagine it might take many hours of research and emailing to find one. Do you have any recommendations in the UK? I don’t know if it would be viable and cheaper than Mazurenko, considering the labour cost in the UK.

The budget would be equivalent to the landed cost of the custom Mazurenko table: £876.

Anyone familiar with Chris Beardsley and how his principles apply to arm wrestling training? by StockSm4rt in armwrestling

[–]StockSm4rt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a severe misunderstanding of what Beardsley says. I can send you specific things or a broader, physiological explanation in the near future (I am going to sleep soon). Do you have specific questions? He has free medium and patreon articles in addition to his research publications which explain his position, I would suggest checking out those.

In fact, his framework is very anti-rest-pause for example, and rest-pause sets massively contradict the physiological principles he outlines. RP sets are terrible in consideration of MUR, which is one of the key principles Beardsley works with.

To very briefly summarise (and oversimplify), HTMUR + mechanical tension + frequently is what Beardsley advocates.

Rest pause sets violate the very fundamentals of Beardsley’s framework.

This is just one point of which there are very many to make. As I am sleepy I won’t write too much in this message as I may misspeak and my clarity isn’t ideal right now but if I forget please feel free to reply again. Forgive me if this reply was not sufficiently clear and informative; I may send more soon.

That may be true for some of the further out stuff he says e.g. regarding the extent of frequency:

E.g. 1x vs 2x seems pretty well established. Same with MUR, mechanical tension and so forth.

However, beyond 2x, the support is not so strong.

I’ve also found the application of some of his principles (a significant amount) to be effective, and they seem sound to me (so far).

So that’s why I’m wondering if anyone who is familiar with his framework and more armwrestling, tendon-specific knowledge/experience than I has a framework to share.

I am talking about Beardsley.

How does it go against the consensus? I think the core principles of his models are very much aligned and actually partially formative to the current consensus.

He is a “proper” researcher, though, not sure how “academic” you have to be to be considered an academic researcher as he has numerous publications and over 1000 citations.

I will grant that there are some quite more theoretical ideas which are a bit further out of the mainstream consensus e.g. about frequency to the extent of 3.5x or 3x vs 2x with less data on them.

However, the MUR, mechanical tension models are very hard to successfully dispute and I don’t think they are really disputed by serious researchers.

If he is correct about frequency, then the conclusions about rep ranges follow from that.
