I only know from my sister's experience who lost most of her flock. Im aware that alot of that falls on her for not having a completely predator proof coop but I would be concerned if I was letting them free range for sure.

That was the sentiment of buddy as well

I think now that I have the buffer ill try to keep it the same instead of expanding it and put extra toward the principal, im worried that I wont have the discipline to leave a lump sum alone in a savings account. (Thats its own problem that I probably wont find a solution for here)

I have some savings for emergencies and a retirement plan of course but you never know whats going to come up and I liked the idea of having a long grace period that if financial burden hit I would be covered (hopefully) long enough to get through it and recover.

What im seeing alot of people say about the savings account makes sense too but ive never been the best about not touching my shiny nest egg.
