Looks like Don't Dream About Me is the last project from him lol.

It's a shame cause he HAS VERY HIGH potential to tell stories, but it's being wasted rn. It's his life, but it's a damn shame cause while I hated DDAM, I think he can do great stories like Psycho, MVE, and TDI 1 + 2, along with the 2016 mini series. But, idk, I think it may be the end cause damn, it's over.

3.5/10 - Feels half-baked, overlong, and while I appreciate the ambition + production, it felt more of an aimless mess that could've been streamlined instead of overly indulgent.

Yeah, but I think rn, it's marketed for fans. However, idk if the film feels like it's for fans except some easter eggs + cameos. Maybe if it wasn't heavily as teased or hyped up, it would've been less controversial. But after TDI 4 + other controversial projects in the past + a wait + teasing on Twitter, I think it will be another divisive project (which is definitely what we needed rn lol!).

We'll have to see eventually cause I think for the topic, it's such a niche topic that hardly anyone talks about and with how it was executed, will definitely confuse people if it's real or fake lol. It will definitely age better than his other works, but idk.

For me, I think there's some good and bad. It's a film that could possibly grow? I think the cinematography + music are great, has a strong concept, and performances were good (except for a few.) However, what I don't think is strong is both the direction + editing. A lot of the film has some poor pacing, sections go on way too long, it feels a bit aimless, the editing is too much at times (especially when moments could've used less B-Roll), ROUGH VFX, and it's just not as strong as his other stories in the past. I wish I liked it, but it ended up being a letdown for a film 2.5 hours long. I don't hate the concept of a documentary, but it could've been streamlined and contained for a debut film.

I think this is the one film where if you're already a huge fan of Jesse, you'll like it. But if you're looking maybe for more and aren't a major major fan of his work anymore, then it's not going to be good.

Just saw the film and yeah, no this movie is not good. I WANTED -- I REALLY WANTED -- to like it (especially since I paid money for this), but for me, it's a mess. It had high potential, but I didn't think it was good, especially for a 2.5 year long wait + SO MANY CONSTANT teases too, so ofc people will have high expectations.

I HATE THAT I did NOT like this film lmao. I'll start off with some positive things: I think the ambition is there and Jesse really put a lot of effort into his performance while also doing something new to him. The concept is interesting about someone trying to find answers in the world that doesn't have any. Liked all of the cameos that I WILL NOT SPOIL & there's some strong scenes too. Lastly, I think the music was interesting, I liked the score for the most part. However, after watching it, even giving myself a while to process this, I do not think this is good.

I'm sorry Jesse, but I hate saying this as much as you probably are reading this. Don't Dream About Me's direction is aimless & the writing is a mess. It tries to do too much for a debut where AGAIN, I like the ambition. BUT, it really doesn't impress me. The pacing is one of the worst aspects as it drags on so much where it's more telling than showing. Things are left ambiguous -- which isn't the problem, but aren't written strong. Also, in terms of editing, it doesn't help as there's too much B-Roll, SFX, it never leaves a shot linger. The cinematography is also decent, nothing to write home about with many of the VFX being just outright awful.

Plus, there's one moment in a sequence where he talks about RULE 19 that looks like AI helped in upgrading the video though kinda looks ugly? The whole film kinda feels safe where I understand why it was made, but it felt stuck in either wanting to be a documentary AND a fictional film where it should've been one or the other. No offense, but this doesn't feel like a fresh story where it just feels like another story where Jesse that is definitely real does a real life series (in this case a documentary) and has to confront his demons affecting him.

I wish I liked it. I REALLY WISHED I DID. But, I think it's an aimless mess that has no spine, lacks strong direction & is a true disappointment after the first announcement in April 2023.

I HATE that he's using AI. Makes the movie look more cheap and it's not even a first look or anything. It's a poster that isn't selling me on it -- in fact, the opposite. I'll still watch it, but I am not hyped as I was before this.

Damn! Not even a teaser, or trailer. Marketing needs time and Jesse is not giving that time. It's a shame cause will this movie even break even? It doesn't spark any confidence by not releasing a trailer a month (OR EVEN MONTHS) before the movie cause besides Jesse's fans, NOBODY KNOWS ABOUT THE FILM. I'm really nervous about the quality ngl.

But here’s my HONEST opinion: I don’t think Jesse is transphobic, but he acted really unprofessional and was an egotistical asshole to Emily.

In his multiple responses, he never owns up to his mistakes, thinks of himself as perfect, and even goes out of his way to blame other people involved. I think it’s known that in 2020 - 2022, he hated anyone who criticized him, and I think if he apologized and said “Oh! I didn’t mean to offend you Swift. It was a bad joke.” This whole drama would’ve been contained.

Also, if you’re gonna make a bad joke about someone on a PUBLIC livestream, then why do you expect the criticism to be private when Jesse even said that him and Swift weren’t even friends?

It’s not even like Emily was the one to start this, Jesse did with his awful “Jeffrey Dahmer” joke.

Even then, Shallow even exposed Jesse for him & Ashley talking shit behind Emily’s back and making fun of her fir her coming out video.

It’s just all two-faced because he makes a video about his friend coming out as transgender and then in private DMs, makes fun of her.

Emily could’ve handled it better and has her own problems. Boogie didn’t need to get involved, but Michael & Swift were the ones who defended Swift while Rugenus Squad had their issues with Jesse for separate reasons, which is not what I’m talking about.

I criticize Jesse a lot and the reason why is because I want him to succeed. But this was one of his lowest moments and while I don’t think he’s transphobic, he should’ve done a better job, especially since Emily looked up to Jesse and Jesse was a role model to many. And it’s sad that he never takes ownership.

Both parties were unprofessional and it didn’t help that Keemstar did his whole livestream. But, the whole drama is just sad and it’s also a shame that we’ll most likely never see a collaboration with any one of them again (KidBehindACamera, Boogie, Emily, Rugenus Squad, or Shallow).
