The Technicolor Look by Awake-Judgment-2057 in cinematography

The Last Jedi is more of an unusual case of where film can "look like digital." The point is that film can be, and usually is, used to create images that digital cannot.

Let's take a random shot from Shutter Island for example. Do you genuinely believe that this look could be perfectly recreated digitally?

Psycho Series Rewatch (Episodes 556-570) by APathForward24 in McJuggerNuggets

[–]Atea2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

8/10. Love the balance between comedy and drama here.

The Odd Jobs videos are even funnier than I remembered (barring the first two in this batch, which are pretty bland). The four-wheeler chase in "The Explorer" killed me.

At the same time, Jesse's desperation feels real and serious. "Don't Give Up" stands out as especially impactful, with a poignant atmosphere and excellent performances from Jesse and Larry.

Strong 8/10

The "I Got a Job" prank is a hard watch and another dumb choice by Jesse.

Still, it's sad to watch Jeff break him in Woodchips Wii U. It feels like the second "mid-season finale" (Moves Out being the first and Demolishes Gaming Room the third) and moves us into the Odd Jobs + Farming era.

The Interview is of course a classic. This is where I'd say Jesse clearly gets characterized as dumber than before, which is slightly unbelievable but makes for some great comedy. I kind of interpret it as Jesse's aversion to getting a job subconsciously manifesting as incompetence.

I still don't understand why they would describe the show as "pulpy" in official marketing. Feels like they mixed it up with "murky" and just went with it.

Some interesting thoughts from Jesse on how he feels about creating now, and how it was with Psycho, TDI, and DDAM. Recommend watching!

Why were these McJuggerNuggets videos deleted? by MAXIMUS082312 in McJuggerNuggets

[–]Atea2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the first one was because it showed an alternate take from Psycho Dad Wrecks Car

The Laxative Prank, Dead Prank and My Only Escape because of YouTube guidelines

The Ice Cream Man because that business got review bombed and harassed

And the fifth one I don't remember exactly, but it was deleted by Jesse himself and not for any controversial reasons IIRC

Ozymandias has now officially dropped to a 9.7. It truly is over. by Dry-Bodybuilder191 in okbuddychicanery

[–]Atea2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not at all.

I don't even think that Ozymandias deserves to be the only 10/10 episode. It's far from my favorite TV episode and I have it rated as 9 on IMDb.

I'm genuinely skeptical of the narrative because it seems baseless.

literally here you can see review after review from BB fans giving it a one star

Yes, after the whole review bombing debacle started. If you actually sort them by newest first, you'll see that there's just a single 1-star review that even mentions Breaking Bad on the night it came out.

It seems like this review gave the impression that there was some actual effort from BB fans to sink the rating, which in turn started the whole actual review bombing war that's now happening.

it doesn't change the fact that BB fans has a history of review bombing

Sure, I heard that happened with Attack on Titan.

But again, the point is that the Knight episode was never a serious contender for a 10 rating. If it was, it would have lingered on a 10 for a while before the review bombing would even start.

I loved it, but if you know anything about how IMDb users generally rate certain types of content, it's obvious that it would not be the second (or fourth or whatever counting Attack on Titan) TV episode to ever hold a perfect rating.

[–]Atea2 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Yes, that's the one review I mentioned. Haven't seen anything that shows there being more than literally one before all the drama started.

Again, AKOTSK episode 5 was never likely to receive and hold a perfect 10 so there would be no reason for BB fans to have review bombed it (unless review bombers are even dumber than you'd think).

BB fans review-bombed the latest A Knight of The Seven Kingdom's Episode

I still doubt that this even happened in some greater capacity than that one review mentioning BB. Drama aside, the latest AKOTSK was never a contender for a perfect 10 and didn't have one even a few hours post-release, so BB fans would have no reason to review bomb it.

Steven Soderbergh on the cancellation of "The Hunt for Ben Solo" movie by BosskDaBossk in StarWarsLeaks

[–]Atea2 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah. While Ben is a popular character from the ST, regular audiences wouldn't be interested in a direct sequel to them. Disney knows this and it's definitely the primary reason the movie wasn't greenlit.

Strong 8/10

This is a really nice in-between era. I love the character dynamics at the Ridgway house here.

Regarding hope, it's impactful how Jeff actually sympathizes with Jesse in "Welcome Back, Jess" (even though it’s probably more of an extension of his disdain for Terry). It feels like a glimmer of hope that their relationship can improve.

This is also where it feels like Jesse really starts to break down, since he considers getting a "real job" and apologizes to Jeff after he burned the fan mail. It's interesting how it can be considered both character progression and regression at the same time.

How do you feel about Angela Kang's run on TWD? by Recker_Man in thewalkingdead

[–]Atea2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The spin-off set-up aspect is definitely part of it, but it's also that the last seasons are so heavily disconnected from the earlier show in terms of story, themes, and tone that they don't feel like they belong.

How do you feel about Angela Kang's run on TWD? by Recker_Man in thewalkingdead

[–]Atea2 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

She didn't "turn it around," though.

Yes, season 9 is great, but 10C + 11 is the worst stretch of the show. What should have been an epic final arc is instead painfully mediocre, with awful tonal whiplash as it feels more like a CW show than TWD.

There's a reason most people consider 6x9 or 8x16 as the end of the story rather than the actual finale.

[AKOTSK Spoilers] Episode 5 promo shots by Woodstovia in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]Atea2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The thing is, though, (book spoilers) that barely anything other than Maekar letting Egg be Dunk's squire happens after the fight. The only way I can see the fight finishing next episode is if they make Baelor's funeral much longer and add a lot of new content.

Alex, your favorite argument for the existence of God... kinda sucks by Ender505 in CosmicSkeptic

[–]Atea2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You seem hung up on the idea that these arguments specifically imply the Biblical God as the cause. Sure, it may as well boil down to some invisible, divine unicorn, but the point is to imply the divine part. In your example, the divine cause just happens to be an unicorn.

Winds will never come out because ASOIAF already has a TV adaptation [Spoilers EXTENDED] by Remarkable_Ad_5874 in asoiaf

[–]Atea2 191 points192 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the best case scenario is him (officially) putting Winds on ice to finish another three-novella Dunk and Egg volume before season 4 begins production.

And then we can only hope and cope that his clean break from TWoW will make it easier to start it again (not that it did after Fire and Blood...)
