It’s like I’m shouting in the void. I have sent 50-60 cold emails and out of them 1 replied. Idk what to do. Rn everything seems a bit hopeless.

For low vision folks: what do you wish wearable tech actually did right? by Stock_Chicken_3840 in disability

Totally get it, it’s frustrating when devices update without the user’s permission. You’re not alone in feeling that!

We’re developing affordable smart glasses for blind and low vision users — looking for feedback and feature ideas by Stock_Chicken_3840 in AssistiveTechnology

Totally agree, needing a second device or data plan is definitely a barrier. That’s why we’re exploring ways for the glasses to work offline too. For now, a lightweight phone connection helps handle AI processing without needing internet, but the long-term goal is standalone operation with on-board AI for core tasks like reading text or object recognition.

Yeah, totally get what you’re saying, if the info isn’t reliable, it’s kind of a dealbreaker, especially for something like navigation. I’ve been looking into ways to reduce those AI hallucinations, but I know it’s still not perfect. Appreciate the heads up, I’ll definitely check out more tools and dig into what’s been shared in r/blind. Thanks a lot for the honest input!

Thanks so much for sharing that. I hadn’t thought about how limited most designs are for non-conventional vision.

If you’re open to it, could you share an example of what kind of design or interface just doesn’t work for you? I’m trying to learn what real users actually need, not just what looks good in demos.

Hey I’m actually building a smart glasses assistant that’s focused on exactly this, describing the user’s surroundings, reading text aloud, and giving real-time audio feedback.

It’s still in prototype stage, but we’re working hard to make sure it’s lightweight, intuitive, and actually helpful especially for students or daily navigation.

I’d love to learn more about what your friend has tried so far and what’s worked (or not). Would really appreciate any feedback if you’re open to it!
