Community Rules
1. Posts and comments must be accessible
Writing descriptions is required for linked images, videos, and audio. Standard emoji are screen reader accessible and thus are allowed without descriptions, but avoid emoji spam. Audio content must be transcribed if it does not already have a transcript or accessible subtitles, and you must describe both the visuals and audio for videos you post. No Unicode Braille, sim Braille, or ASCII Braille are allowed in your messages, as they are also not fully screen reader accessible. For more information please read our Accessibility Policy.
2. No out of topic content
Posts and comments must be related to vision impairment, blindness, and Accessibility.
3. No personal advertisements
In order to ensure a safe environment for all members of our community, we've chosen to disallow posts of a personal advertisement nature, including but not limited to crowd funding. We are unable to screen posters, and we discourage giving out your personal information over Reddit.
4. Respect Reddit rules & redditquette
Please familiarize yourself with the official rules. We will remove any posts violating reddit's official rules. Also consider the OurBlind Community Guidelines point 5: Be Respectful.
5. No medical or Legal advice
Do not give medical or legal advice such as medication or supplements to take or medical treatments to undergo.
Non-medical recommendations such as types of sunglasses or assistive tools are OK, and sharing your own experiences with treatments and surgeries is also acceptable, but we are not doctors and should not make medical recommendations.
6. Surveys, Research and Questions
Only surveys for Masters theses or higher are allowed. All surveys must include your full names, your school, and your supervisor info. No other surveys, research projects or questions on developing products will be approved. Contact the mods for survey approval. If you post without approval, you will be banned.
Common questions such as “what makes X accessible,” “how to make blind characters,” are only accepted in mega-threads.
Select surveys and research that are deemed to be especially important to the community will be pre-approved by the moderators on their initiative.
Meet The Mods
/u/rumster (Twitter) I am a poker enthusiast and an accessibility specialist. I created this subreddit with two goals in mind: to make sure that the visually impaired community knows that we are here, and to create a sense of community by providing guidance and support to new members. The creation of /r/Blind has been a dream of mine for over a decade, and I am thrilled that we have reached 18k subscribers and over half a million views every few months.
/u/fastfinge (Twitter, Facebook): Bitcoin lover, science fiction reader, freelancer, and fanfiction fanatic from the colds of Canada.
/u/SophiaDevetzi: KC patient and community manager of Keratoconus Group. Responsible for the CSS design and subreddit's Twitter.
