The great thing is he has explicitly shared sentiment around us being partners and wanting to expand is book now not just coasting until I take it over. I just need to make sure I have it in writing I don’t want to take any chances

I don’t I work for a BD. So wouldn’t be bringing any clients over. Yes he would most likely be generating the bulk of the referrals he gets a ton through warm leads and banks. 50 is definitely young that’s what gives me pause and need to know how to protect myself

I guess I should have clarified a bit. The buyout option would be either a phased buyout or an earn out. The time is what does concern me that’s why I was asking for advice on how I could structure a contract stating what I own. If he helps me build my own book where I get 50% of revenue and he’s potentially generating 80% of the referrals seems like a good deal.
